Northern League Div2EC Match 3 - Rotherham 4 July 2010 |
|
Third place in their latest Northern League match at Rotherham was enough to keep the Lincoln Wellington senior squad at the top of the table with one match remaining.
And, once again, the middle distance track squad were the big points scorers although a fierce wind had a negative impact on finishing times.
Tom Straw was 2nd in the A 800m in 1m 59.6s before Tom Doe won the B race in the same time.
The latter then went on to win the 1500m in 4m 04.4s – holding off a strong challenge from teammate Sam Atkin, who won the B race with
4m 04.7s. The pair were miles clear of the opposition and the same thing happened in the 5000m with the A race going to Aaron Scott in
14m 59.3s and the B contest being won by Ian Kimpton in 15m 10.6s.
Matt Bowser was another runaway Wellington winner with 9m 34.4s in the 3000m
Steeplechase. Chris Leslie and Neil Humberstone picked up some good points in the sprints with the latter scoring in the B 100m in
12.0s. And there was a promising senior debut for Lewis Goddard in the 400m with 52.8s for 4th place.
Ian Maplethorpe was 4th in the B race with 54.7s. Joe Dunderdale's good throw of 56.79m to win the
Javelin was easily the pick of the men's field performances. Versatile brothers Ashley and Ryan Smith returned to the team and, after scoring well in the 400m
Hurdles, they also filled a lot of the field slots to good effect with a 12.12m
Triple Jump by Ryan for 2nd place being a particularly fine effort.
Geoff Powley and Adey White performed tirelessly to ensure points were picked up in the remaining field events.
Although there were no outright winners from the women's squad, there was plenty of consistent scoring. Georgia Ball and Gemma Selwood were 2nd in the 800m races with 2m 25.0s and 2m 38.7s respectively and Natalie Farrow and Sheridan McWilliam were also runners-up in the 1500m with 4m 51.9s and 5m 28.0s. Lucinda Pitcher and Sophie Cowper completed a trio of Wellington 2nd places in the 3000m with 10m 40.9s and 11m 01.5s. Megan Ball was 2nd in the B 400m in 64.4s and 5th in the 400m Hurdles in 73.4s. And, in the two sprints, Shireen Timmis picked up 4th place in the 100m (13.2s) and 5th spot in the 200m (28.2s) while Lucy Helas was 3rd in the B 100m (13.9s) and 4th in the B 200m (28.1s). Hannah Dunderdale ran a strong 400m to finish 2nd in 59.0s and she was also 2nd in the B High Jump with 1.40m and 4th in the Javelin with 33.73m. Sarah Stanhope threw the Hammer 42.34m for 2nd place and was 4th in the Discus with 30.08m. Mary-Ann Phillips worked hard throughout the contest with 3rd place in the High Jump (1.40m), 4th in both the 100m Hurdles (18.3s) and Long Jump (4.58m) and also 5th spot in the B Shot. Team captain Denise Timmis weighed in with a leap of 4.35m for 3rd place in the B Long Jump and further crucial field points were scored by Hayley Fox, Lynsey Campbell, Sharon Waller and Laura Ware. |
