In the Senior Boys Decathlon there were two Wellington athletes on the podium with Joe Dunderdale taking 2nd place with a new personal best points total of 5538pts – just 50 points short of a club record which has stood for over 25 years.  With a further year in the same age group it should only be a matter of time before he re-writes the record.  There was also a very good effort from Matt Houlden to take 3rd place in the same event with 5502pts.  And this was a performance that was all the more creditable as he was still carrying a minor injury problem.  Also in the medals was Hannah Dunderdale in the Intermediate Girls Heptathlon.  Her score of 4215pts for the runner-up spot was a new Lincoln Wellington record in her age group.  A further very creditable medal winning effort came from Mary-Ann Phillips who finished in 3rd place in the Senior Girls Heptathlon with 2895pts.  Having concentrated almost solely on the sprints previously, this could well be the beginning of a new athletics direction for her.  In a highly competitive Junior Boys Pentathlon, Haran Dunderdale did very well to total 2241pts and claim another new Wellington club record.  The fact that this only placed him 7th is an indicator of the quality of the competition.  Two Wellington athletes made the Junior Girls Pentathlon team and both found some very tough opposition.  Katie McMunn finished in 7th place with 2443pts with Sydney Cherrie not far behind her in 11th position with a score of 2334pts.
