Northern U17/U15 T&F Championships Leigh 29-30 May 2010 |

Lincoln Wellington athletes were amongst the medals on the first day of the
Northern Athletics U17/U15 Championships at the impressive new Leigh Sports Village near Manchester on Saturday. The persistent heavy rain posed problems for the throwers, but Sarah Stanhope produced a throw of 44.26m for second place in the U17W Hammer, with Paige Mitchell throwing 31.48m to place 5th. On the track, Rhiannon Philps ran a well judged race in the heats of the 800m to qualify for the final with a good time of 2m 22.2s, however a week of illness and delayed flights from a school trip to Spain took its toll in the final where she placed 6th in a still very respectable time of 2m 25.87s. In the U15 Girls 1500m, Emma Tonner held back from the fierce early pace, coming through the field to gain 3rd place at the finish in 4m 45.22s. There were 2 personal bests from LWAC athletes in the U17W 3000m. Libbie Read placed 6th in 10m 54.3s and Sheridan McWilliam 8th in 11m 23s. (No report on Day 2). |
