Northern League Div2EC
Match 1 - Doncaster
1 May 2010

The absence of many of the club's top senior athletes left the Lincoln Wellington squad looking vulnerable for their first Northern League track and field match of the season at Doncaster.  However, with some of the club's young guns riding to the rescue ably supported by a contingent of willing veterans, a highly satisfactory 2nd place was achieved with hopefully a launch pad created for a promotion shot later in the season.

Tom Doe produced the class track performance of the day with 9m 13.2s to win the 3000m Steeplechase by a huge margin.  He was also 2nd in the 1500m in 4m 10.3s.  The B Steeplechase went to Mark Baddeley in 10m 35.7s.  Sam Atkin made a winning track debut with a club U20 5000m record of 15m 36.4s and a further success on the track went to Steve Gregory who hit the front late in the 400m to score in 50.1s.  Matt Houlden produced a series of good results to win the Triple Jump with 14.50m and take 2nd place in the 110m Hurdles with 17.1s and 3rd position in the Long Jump with 6.21m.  Joe Dunderdale was another of the club's young athletes making his senior debut with a fine throw of 52.10m to win the Javelin and following up with 9.23m for 6th in the Shot.  The B 110m Hurdles went to Marc Afford with 18.9s and he was also 4th in the 400m Hurdles in 63.7s and 2nd in the B High Jump with 1.55m.  Ian Maplethorpe finished 3rd in the 800m in 2m 04.9s and did well to take 3rd spot in the B Triple Jump with 10.60m.  Chris Leslie finished 5th in the 100m in 11.8s and followed with 6th place in the 200m in 25.4s.  And there were 5th places for youngster Ryan Stevenson in the B 800m and B 1500m in 2m 18.2s and 4m 48.7s respectively.  Veteran Jon Hughes kept going well to pick up 4th spot in the B 5000m in 18m 17.4s and Henry Naughton chipped in with some good points by finishing 2nd in the B 400m Hurdles in 71.6s, 3rd in the B Long Jump and 5th in the B Hammer.  Malc Bramhall also added to the points tally with 5th places in the High Jump and B 400m and 6th position in the B 200m.  Adey White and Geoff Powley both worked hard to fill the remaining field event slots. The former was 3rd in the Pole Vault with 3.00m, 6th in the Hammer with 18.67m and 5th in the B Discus with 18.23m.  And the latter finished 3rd in the B Pole Vault with 2.90m, 4th in the B Javelin with 33.08m and 6th in the Discus with 27.74m.

Ellis Whyler was the star for the women's team with wins in the Long Jump (5.03m) and High Jump (1.35m).  Hannah Dunderdale was another youngster making her senior debut and did well with 3rd places in the Javelin (30.00m) and Shot (10.15m).  Sarah Stanhope also did well in the field to take 3rd place in the Hammer with 39.93m, 4th place in the Discus with 27.69m and also 3rd spot in the B Shot with 7.71m.  A good throw of 32.50m gave Paige Mitchell 3rd place in the B Hammer and there were further field points from Hayley Fox in the Pole Vault (2.20m), Denise Timmis in the Long Jump (4.36m) and Kathy Warhurst in the Discus (16.57m).  On the track, Georgia Ball picked up 2nd place in the 1500m in 4m 55.9s with the B race going to veteran Jane Clarke in 5m 46.9s.  Sheridan McWilliam chased hard throughout for 2nd place in the 3000m in a personal best 11m 25.3s and veteran Susie Ardron knocked 16s off her own club 800m record in the V50 category with 3rd place in 2m 37.2s.  There were some good points in the two sprints with Shireen Timmis taking 3rd places in both races with 13.1s and 28.1s.  Emily Coulter was runner-up in the B 100m in 13.6s and Lucy Helas ran a promising B 200m to finish 3rd in 29.3s.  Ellie Clarke completed the track squad with 4th place in the 400m in 67.8s.
