Seven Lincoln Wellington Road Runners turned up to run the 17th Stamford St. Valentines 30k road race on Sunday 14th February. It is popular as a training run for those doing Spring Marathons and with 21 hills of ‘significance’ it is a tough race. Conditions were perfect with only a light wind and intermittent rain. With the exception of Peter Duncan (who was there to act as pace maker for Glenn Moore – “Thanks Pete”) all LWAC runners amazingly achieved Personal Bests for this distance.
First home were Peter (Chatty Man) Duncan in 74th place and Glenn (My Toes Hurt) Moore in 75th place, both in a time of
2h 09m 01s, closely followed by Rob (The Prowler) Butler in 102nd place in a time of
2h 13m 04s. Next home were the Valentine couple, Andy (Why Am I Doing This?) Grimwood in 274th place in a time of
2h 28m 25s followed closely (as romantic couples should) by Nettie (Wonder Woman) Wasyliw in 286th place and a fantastic time of
2h 28m 52s. Next came Deb (Lovely Girl) Daly in 378th place in a time of
2h 36m 56s and last, but certainly not least, was Dave (The Shuffler) Smith in 577th place and a time of
3h 11m 25s. This was an incredible personal achievement by Dave as he had not been pleased with his recent performances in the Dewsbury 10k or the Folksworth 15 over the last 2 weeks.
All LWAC runners performed brilliantly and, although we didn’t bring home any prizes, most of us did manage to bring home black toenails, blisters, sore muscles and damaged knees!
Well done to all that ran.
