Lincs League Cross Country Match 4 - Louth 13 December 2009 |
|
Some outstanding performances from the Lincoln Wellington endurance squad at the final Lincolnshire League match of the winter at Louth brought the first part of the cross country season to a successful conclusion. And on the evidence seen so far the club will be confident of picking up a major share of the awards at the County Championships in January. There was a slightly surprising result in a high quality Senior Women's race with training partners Lucinda Pitcher and Harriet Canter disputing the lead throughout. The latter has been in fine form on the roads recently, but it was Pitcher who just edged ahead in the final dash to line to win an enthralling contest. Natalie Farrow of Cleethorpes AC, who trains with the Wellington duo, had an eye catching run to finish close behind in 3rd. Sophie Cowper was 1st U20 across the line in 4th place with Holly Haywood 6th and Sylvia Strangeway 8th. Sarah Kimpton followed this group in 10th place with Susie Ardron just behind in 12th and Janette Dunderdale (22nd), Pat Kimpton (35th) and Dot Fraser (37th) completing a powerful Wellington turnout. Laura Donnelly has had a good season so far and duly won the U17 Women's race with Sam Hood 3rd and Gemma Selwood 5th. And a good day for the Donnelly sisters was completed when Abbie was successful in the U13 Girl's race with Rebekah Ward 2nd and Clara Temple 5th. The U15 Girl's contest also went to Wellington, with Bo Haywood running strongly to come home 1st ahead of Emma Tonner in 3rd place and Georgie Connolly 4th. Sam Atkin totally dominated the U17 Men's field and, making all the running, he won by a massive margin of almost two minutes.
Matt Bee in 4th and Adam Baker 6th completed the winning team. Joe Shuttleworth put another Wellington success on the board in the
U13 Boy's race with Declan Dickinson 3rd and Dion Harrison 7th. Daniel Skinner in 11th place and Max Chapman 13th completed the squad.
The U15 Boy's team all ran well with Sam Chapman taking 2nd place ahead of Haran Dunderdale in 3rd and Dylan Love 4th.
A good run from Les Ball, who was in the leading trio throughout in the
Senior Men's race, gave him a fine 2nd place - just outpaced in the closing stages.
Andy Dunderdale was next home for Wellington in 11th with Art Connolly 12th. Chris Woodger dropped back to 18th after a rather ambitious start and was followed in by Pete Duncan in 24th place.
Geoff Hall crossed the line 37th and the Wellington squad was completed by Steve Bullivant 47th and Mark Lovett 49th.
Some promising running from the Wellington U11 Girls saw Lucy Thornton back in 2nd place with Yasmine Fenton 3rd and Abigail
Small 4th. Rhiannon Martin was a little further back in 7th with Holly Dickinson 12th.
And, in the U11 Boy's race, Luke Cherrie picked up 3rd spot ahead of Ben Skinner in 7th. |
