21 November 2009

The day started with a magnificent performance by Matthew Houlden in the Triple Jump with a jump of 13.83m which is just 15cm off his lifetime best.  His good form was continued by his performance in other events such as 60m Hurdles, in which he came a very respectable second, considering that this was his first time at the event, with a time of 9.21s.  He also raced in the 150m, coming in first with a speedy time of 17.19s.

There was further competition in the 60m Hurdles from both Haran and Hannah Dunderdale, Haran coming in fourth with a time 10.68s and Hannah coming a very close second in the U15 Girls age group with a time of 9.66s.

The 60m Hurdles was closely followed by the 60m in which we had a number of athletes including a welcome return back to competition from Mike White, after a break of seven years due to injury, seeing him achieve a time of 7.9s.  Other Senior competitors include Chris Leslie, who ran 7.69s for a competitive second place and Shireen Timmis, who came fourth with a time of 8.2s and achieved a club record.  U20 competitor Joe Dunderdale won the distance convincingly with a time of 7.80s.  On the Vets side we saw great competition from the current UK number one Malcolm Bramhall and Denise Timmis with a respectable time of 8.24s for Malc, who has been suffering from calf troubles, and 9.18s for Denise, who was returning to the distance after a break of three years.  There were also a number of Junior athletes present including Lauren Ward, Ellie Mason-Powers and Joshua Malia.  Lauren, having also competed in the Long Jump, ran a time of 9.73s.

Away from the sprints, Hester Talbot showed guts in 2000m coming in eighth after a gruelling 10 laps with a time of 7m 38.60s.  This was shortly followed by the 600m in which we had a number junior of competitors including Ellie Mason-Powers who, after her time of 8.93s in the 60m, had an awe-inspiring finish coming in first with a time of 1m 56.72s.  Also in the race were our two U13 competitors Amelia Applewhite, who came a decent third with a time of 2m 01.70s and Lauren Ward who came fourth with a time of 2m 09.95s.  Similarly Haran Dunderdale competed in the U15 Boys age group and, after a arduous race, we saw another impressive finish as Haran came in third with a time of 1m 38.44s.  Haran was followed home by Wellington runner Rhiannon Philps who came in in a time of 1m 43.87s.

The next event was the Shot Putt, where Joe Dunderdale achieved sixth position and Hannah Dunderdale achieved third. Joe throwing a distance of 11.37m and Hannah throwing 9.60m.

This was closely followed by the last event of the day, the 150m sprint. Lincoln Wellington dominated in this event with six competitors and many good runs, including Mike White's second event of the day and he came a very presentable fifth with a time of 19.06s.  There were also commendable performances from Malcolm Bramhall who ran a time of 19.46s and further competition between brother and sister Joe and Hannah Dunderdale, which saw Joe come in first with a time of 18.72s and Hannah second with a time of 19.65s.  Shireen Timmis was also in this race and achieved a personal best time of 19.82s.

This superb Wellington performance was continued by Joshua Malia who, as well as winning the 60m with a time of 8.32s, ran a 600m in 1m 51.11s.  Furthermore, he ran a reputable time of 21.97s in the 150m just 15 minutes after his 600m performance.
