National XC Relays Berry Hill Park, Mansfield 31 October 2009 |
|
Three top ten team placings and some terrific individual performances at the National Cross Country Relays
in Mansfield provided very positive confirmation of Lincoln Wellington's status as an emerging force in British endurance running.
The Senior Men's A team made a real breakthrough with Tom Doe's time of
15m 29s on the first 5k leg getting him home in 14th place from over 150 starters.
Aaron Scott ran strongly to drop just one place on leg two and another good effort from Will Strangeway on the third leg saw him hold on to 15th place in
16m 18s. Matt Bowser finished in 15m 35s on the final leg and moved the club to the heady heights of 10th place - a remarkable performance that saw them well ahead of many of the
country's big name clubs. Les Ball produced a good effort on the first leg for the B team with
17m 13s. Paul Samways (19m 09s), Jon Hughes (19m 27s) and Geoff Powley
(22m 06s) eventually finished in 116th place. And a team from the
clubs road running squad comprising Geoff Hall (21m 07s), Mark Lovett
(21m 54s), Darren Holian (20m 51s) and Dan Hogg (19m 09s) finished a little further back in 133rd spot. In a somewhat smaller Junior Women's field there was another brilliant Wellington performance. Rochelle Harrison covered the 2.5k opening lap in 9m 14s for 15th place and Blue Haywood picked up four places on leg two with 9m 22s. A fine last leg from Lara Thomas in 9m 11s took the squad through to 6th at the finish and once again leaving some big name clubs trailing behind them. Georgia Ball (9m 48s) and Holly Haywood (10m 23s) ran the first two legs of the race for an incomplete B team. The U17 Men's team also performed superbly with Sam Atkin working through well on the first leg after an impeded start to finish the 3k lap in 8th place with 9m 27s. Ian Maplethorpe improved a place on leg two with 9m 57s and Nathan Page hung on to an excellent 7th place with 9m 48s on the last lap. The first two legs of the B team went to Ronny Wilson (10m 09s) and Jack Culpin (10m 53s) but unfortunately there was no third leg runner. Sheridan McWilliam (10m 25s) and Laura Donnelly (10m 04s) took the U17 Women into 30th place after two legs of their race before a storming final 2.5k circuit from Libbie Read in 9m 31s brought them through to 18th place at the line. The B team picked up 40th place via Hester Talbot (10m 06s), Gemma Selwood (11m 24s) and Rebecca Wells (11m 56s). A strong Junior Men's team all did well with Tom Straw (9m 32s), Shane Robinson (9m 37s) and Chris Woodger (10m 04s) for the 3k lap eventually finishing a creditable 19th. The U15 Boys also finished in 19th place with Sam Chapman completing the 2k circuit in 6m 54s and being well supported by Haran Dunderdale (7m 02s) and Dylan Love (7m 15s). The U13 Boys were led off by Declan Dickinson with 7m 50s for the first lap. Alex Humberstone (7m 46s) and Billy Onions (8m 25s) eventually finished in 41st place with Joe Shuttleworth (7m 46s) and Max Chapman (9m 19s) completing the first two legs for the B team. The Senior Women's team was not at full strength but Sylvia Strangeway (12m 49s), Susie Ardron (13m 08s) and Anne Gilroy (14m 04s) all did pretty well to finish in 64th place. Neither of the Junior Girls teams managed a full squad due to late withdrawals, but nevertheless there were some outstanding performances from those that did run. Bo Haywood was home in 36th place in 7m 52s for the 2k lap on the first leg for the U15s before Emma Tonner charged through to 7th on the 2nd leg in a superb 7m 21s - the 10th fastest leg of the race. And there were also two great efforts from the U13 Girls with Abbie Donnelly 7m 44s for 5th place on the first leg and Rebekah Ward 9th on leg two with 8m 16s. |
