After some very good performances from the Lincoln Wellington seniors on the first day of the National Road Relays it was the
club's juniors who took centre stage at Birmingham's Sutton Park on the following day.
The outstanding run of the day came from Sam Atkin on the first leg of the
U17 Men's race. In a race of terrific quality he was third back in a time of
11m 37s which eventually proved to be the 5th fastest leg of the whole race - an excellent performance after being sidelined throughout the summer with a foot injury.
Nathan Page returned in 12m 41s on leg two for 5th place and Ian
Maplethorpe's time of 12m 45s on the last leg gave the team a highly creditable 9th place in a very classy contest.
There were only two athletes in the B team in this event and after Jack
Culpin's 13m 56s on the first leg for 69th place a good effort from Ronnie Wilson saw him cross the line in 51st place with
12m 53s on leg two. A strong U15 Girl's team also performed well with Emma Tonner returning in 20th place on the opening leg in
14m 40s. Rhiannon Philps slipped back to 27th on leg two with 16m
18s before a final flurry from Bo Haywood picked up 10 places on the final leg with a time of
14m 41s seeing her over the line in 17th position. For the U17
Women, the first leg went to Hester Talbot, who recorded 15m 55s for 35th place.
Laura Donnelly picked up 10 places with a good time of 15m 29s on leg two and Libbie Read completed a fine performance by improving a further six places to 19th at the finish in
15m 08s. A very good run from Sheridan McWilliam gave her 29th spot on the first leg for the B team in
15m 29s. Megan Ball moved up a couple of places on the 2nd leg with
16m 31s before Rebecca Wells crossed the finish line in 17m 24s for 32nd place.
Abbie Donnelly did very well on the opening leg of the U13 Girl's race and picked up 9th place in
15m 03s. Rebekah Ward held on to 9th spot on leg two with 16m 26s before Lucy Read conceded a few places on the final leg to finish 23rd in
18m 07s.
