UK Schools Games Cardiff 5-6 September 2009 |

Five young athletes from Lincoln Wellington were selected to represent the East Midlands region at the UK Schools Games meeting at Cardiff. All five acquitted themselves well in a top class competition that comes at the end of a very long season for most of the Wellington squad. Nathan Page was a little off his best in the 1500m steeplechase but a finishing time of 4m 42.51s gave him 8th place in a very strongly run contest. Tom Matthews recorded 11.76s for 5th place in his heat of the 100m but, unfortunately, this was not quite enough to secure him a place in the final. The other three Wellington athletes were in action in the field. A good Javelin throw of 54.82m by Joe Dunderdale gave him 7th place overall and the same finishing position went to Sarah Stanhope with 42.42m in the Hammer. Ellis Whyler was the final Wellington athlete to compete and a leap of 4.94m in the Long Jump placed her 10th overall. The season for most of Wellington's senior athletes will continue for a further week when the club will send a strong team to Manchester to compete in the final of the Northern Clubs Plate competition. |
