Northern League Div2EC Match 4 - Sheffield 2 August 2009 |
|
Some excellent track performances gave the Lincoln Wellington senior squad a very creditable 3rd place in their final
Northern League match of the season at Sheffield. The resulting 4th place in the league standings will mean
Wellington retain their place in division 2 next season. Matt Bowser got his season back on track after illness by
comfortably winning the B 800m in 1m 55.3s and then going on to make all the running in the 1500m for an easy win in
3m 54.8s. Will Strangeway was a close 3rd in the A 800m in 1m
55.2s but got a win on the board in the B 1500m in 4m 06.6s. The 5000m provided maximum points for Wellington with Ian Kimpton crossing the line unchallenged in the A race in
15m 00.7s and Aaron Scott taking the B contest in 15m 45.4s. Good points also came in the 3000m
Steeplechase with Shane
Robinson finishing 3rd A runner in 10m 00.6s with Mark Baddeley almost alongside to take the B race in
10m 00.7s. Martin
Bradbury ran well for 3rd spot in the 400m in a nippy 49.6s with Chris Woodger in 4th place in the B race in
53.8s. New
member Mark Jessop produced a promising effort to take 2nd place in the 400m
Hurdles in 58.0s and he followed with
10.93m for 4th place in the B Triple Jump. Chris Leslie and Malc Bramhall picked up useful points in the 100m and
200m. Matt Houlden has been a mainstay of the team this season and he produced another fine all round effort led off
with 61.5s for 4th place in the 400m hurdles. He followed up with 13.14m for 2nd place in the
Triple Jump, 1.75m for 3rd
in the High Jump and 6.03m to place 5th in the Long Jump. Adey White, Geoff Powley and Brendan Sykes all had a busy
afternoon and ensured valuable points were gained in the remaining field events.
Star multi-eventer Lydia Chamberlain was a big scorer for the women's team. She cleared 1.70m to win the High Jump, won the B Javelin with 25.86m, took 2nd places in the Shot (10.54m) and 100m Hurdles (15.1s), and finished 3rd in the 200m in 25.6s - a fantastic all round effort. Ellis Whyler won the B High Jump with 1.50m and the B 100m Hurdles in 16.3s and was also 3rd in the Long Jump with 5.23m. Good efforts from Sarah Stanhope gave her a win in the Hammer with 43.28m, 2nd place in the Javelin with 29.07m and 4th spot in the Discus with 27.71m. Paige Mitchell was 2nd in the B Hammer with 28.10m and Denise Timmis also finished 2nd in the B Long Jump with 4.57m. Hayley Fox cleared 2.30m for 5th place in the Pole Vault and Becky Sullivan earned good points in the Discus (22.05m) and Shot (8.26m). On the track, the top performance went to Lara Thomas with an impressive 1500m win in a personal best 4m 41.3s. Becky White was 3rd in the B race in 5m 03.6s. There were two good runs from Rochelle Harrison who was caught on the line in the 800m in 2m 18.7s and followed up with 3rd place in the 400m in 61.7s. Blue Haywood moved down in distance to the 800m but picked up the B race comfortably in 2m 20.8s. Sarah Kimpton responded to a late call up to take 4th places in the 3000m in 11m 39.9s and the B 400m in 71.4s. Sheridan McWilliam made her senior debut in the 3000m and did well to finish 2nd in the B race in 11m 48.5s.
