English Schools T&F Championships Don Valley, Sheffield 10-11 July 2009 |
| A bronze medal for Dominic Sykes with a personal best 51.42m in the Junior Boy's Hammer was the star performance from the seven Lincoln Wellington young athletes competing at the English Schools Track and Field Championships at Sheffield's Don Valley Stadium. Joe Dunderdale missed out on bronze by an agonising 10cm but was consoled by a big personal best throw of 59.14m for 4th place in the Intermediate Boy's Javelin. The club's two Steeplechase contestants also produced personal best times. In the Intermediate Boy's 1500m, Nathan Page was always in the chasing group and kept on strongly at the finish for 5th place in 4m 32.94s - over two seconds faster than his previous best. The Senior Girl's 1500m Steeplechase was run for the first time at these championships. Lara Thomas was right in the hunt for the minor medals until losing a couple of places on the final circuit to finish in 6th position. Her time of 5m 12.97s was almost 20 seconds faster than her previous best for the event. Another personal best went to Sarah Stanhope with a fine throw of 43.58m in the Intermediate Girl's Hammer competition which gave her a very creditable 6th place. In the Junior Girl's Shot, Hannah Dunderdale was not quite in top form but 9th place in a high class contest with 9.89m was still a very sound performance. There was also class in abundance in the Senior Boy's Triple Jump where an excellent effort of 13.67m from Matt Houlden was only sufficient to put him in 9th place. |
