Northern League Div2EC
Match 3 - Grantham
5 July 2009

There was a greatly improved performance from the Lincoln Wellington senior team in their latest Northern League Div 2 match at Grantham.  After scrapping for every point, they finished the day in 3rd place and, with one more match to go, they virtually removed any possibility of relegation and could even now make the promotion play-off match.

There were some very good track results from the men's squad with maximum points coming in three events.  Shane Robinson (10m 04.3s) and Mark Baddeley (10m 05.4s) took the two Steeplechase contests and were some way clear of the rest of the field.  Chris Woodger and Les Ball had a good tussle in the 1500m with the former taking the A race in 4m 09.5s and the latter picking up maximum points in the B event with 4m 11.1s.  A third maximum point event came in the 5000m with Ian Kimpton being clear from an early stage to win in 15m 19.3s with new member Aaron Scott an easy winner of the B race in 16m 03.7s.  Chris Fullerton finished 4th in the A 800m in 2m 03.6s and there was a strong run from Ronny Wilson in the B race with 2m 01.4s for 3rd spot.  Chris Leslie finished 5th in both the 100m and 200m with new member Martin Bradbury taking 3rd place in the B 200m in 23.5s.  Matt Houlden did well to finish 2nd in the Triple Jump with 13.38m and 3rd in the High Jump with 1.75m after also taking 3rd place in the 400m Hurdles in 62.8s.  Neil Humberstone was 3rd in the B 400m Hurdles in 67.5s and then finished 4th in the B 400m in 52.8s.  Ryan Smith picked up a useful 3rd spot in the 110m Hurdles in 20.8s with Geoff Powley 4th in the B race with 21.1s.  The men's field events were shared by Adey White, Dan Bishop, Brendan Sykes and Geoff Powley, and all four worked hard to pick up vital points.

The best track event for the women's team was the 3000m where new member Hayley Brylewski ran strongly for 2nd place in 10m 24.4s and Becky White won the B race in a personal best 10m 51.4s.  Lucinda Pitcher's late charge in the 1500m just failed to get her in front but her time of 4m 45.6s was a personal best.  Georgia Ball took the B 1500m in 5m 05.6s.  In the 400m, Rochelle Harrison (62.1s) and Caitlyn Lynch (63.5s) both picked up 2nd places.  More good points came in the 800m with Megan Ball taking 2nd place in 2m 21.3s and Hester Talbot finishing 3rd in the B race in 2m 28.3s.  Shireen Timmis was a close 3rd in the 100m in 13.2s and then took 4th spot in the 200m in 28.5s.  There was a good run for 2nd place in the 100m Hurdles from Ellis Whyler in 16.5s and, in the 400m Hurdles, Lara Thomas finished 5th in 72.8s.  The women's field results were very promising and Sarah Stanhope led the way by winning the Hammer with 38.83m and taking 2nd spot in the Discus and 4th place in the Javelin.  Paige Mitchell was a good 2nd in the B Hammer with 32.61m.  The Long Jump went to Ellis Whyler with 5.29m and Becky Sullivan collected 2nd places in the B Discus (24.21m) and B Shot (8.04m).  A clearance of 2.30m gave Hayley Fox 5th place in the Pole Vault and Sarah Kimpton picked up some useful points in the Long Jump and Javelin.
