Lincs T&F League
Match 2 - Grantham
26 April 2009

The Lincoln Wellington track and field squad continued their good showing of the previous week with another string of successes at the 2nd Lincolnshire League match of the season at Grantham.  Thanks largely to Kathy Warhurst’s recent coaching initiative, the club is starting to produce some very promising field eventers and this was particularly evident in the U17 Women’s age group where there were five victories.

Sarah Stanhope won the Hammer with an excellent effort of 41.28m and followed up by taking the Discus with 23.83m and the Javelin with 26.70m.  Ellis Whyler won the Long Jump with 4.63m and also scored in the Shot with 8.18m.  In the same age group, Caitlyn Lynch won the 300m in a nippy 45.0s and the 1500m went to Laura Donnelly with 5m 14.5s.  In the U15 Girl’s age group, Hannah Dunderdale won the Long Jump with 4.53m and the Shot with 10.04m.  And there were wins on the track for Rhiannon Philps with 5m 20.9s in the 1500m and for Emma Tonner with 11m 23.4s in the 3000m.  U13 Girl’s successes went to Amy Clarke in the 100m with 15.1s and Abby Donnelly in the 1500m in 5m 22.1s.  There was a good tussle in the U20 Women’s 400m where Shireen Timmis (65.6s) just held off Ellie Clarke (66.1s).  And, in the 1500m, there was a clean sweep for Wellington with Georgia Ball (4m 57.8s) winning from Rochelle Harrison (5m 00.7s) and Holly Haywood (5m 25.9s).  Denise Timmis was the only Veteran Women’s winner for the club with a leap of 4.09m in the Long Jump.  Some U11 events have been added to the league programme and sisters Bethany and Georgina Campion fought out the finish of the 80m with times of 13.4s and 13.5s respectively.

In the U11 Boy’s Long Jump, there was a win for Ben Skinner with 2.96m.  And there were excellent field results for Liam Clarke in the U15 Boy’s events.  He won the Javelin with 33.65m, the Discus with 31.07m and the Shot with 9.90m.  Sam Chapman (26.40s) just outpaced James Bermingham (27.20s) in the 200m and the 1500m went to Richard Brine in 4m 51.9s.  Tom Mathews picked up a sprint double in the U17 Men’s contests with 12.1s in the 100m and 24.5s in the 200m.  Ian Maplethorpe did likewise with 2m 10.6s in the 800m and 4m 59.7s in the 1500m steeplechase.  And a third double in the U17s went to Joe Dunderdale with 57.0s in the 400m and 5.32m in the Long Jump.  There were four track wins for the U20 Men with Jack Cornwell taking the 800m in 2m 16.6s and the 1500m in 4m 35.7s.  Chris Woodger won the 400m in 53.4s and the 100m went to Chris Leslie in 12.4s.  New members Martin Bradbury and Aaron Scott both notched good wins with plenty of promise for the future.  The former took the 100m in 11.9s and the latter made all in the 1500m to score in a useful time of 4m 06.2s.  For the Veteran Men, the in form Malc Bramhall won the 100m in 12.9s, the 200m in 25.9s and the 400m in 56.1s.  Les Ball won the 1500m in 4m 17.8s and Brendan Sykes was successful in the Shot with 9.87m.  The versatile Andy Dunderdale had a couple of wins in the High Jump with 1.40m and the Pole Vault with 2.00m.
