Lincs T&F League
Match 1 - Grantham
19 April 2009

Despite many of Lincoln Wellington’s top athletes waiting a little longer to make their seasonal debuts, there were some highly encouraging results for the club at the first Lincolnshire League track and field match at Grantham.  A particular feature was the string of high class sprint and hurdles performances and also some excellent field event results – an area where the club is now starting to make some serious forward movement.

In the U13 Girls age group, the 100m went to Amy Clarke in 14.70s with Alison Mouzon 2nd in 14.90s.  The latter had ample compensation when taking the 70m Hurdles in 12.90s and the High Jump with a clearance of 1.25m.  Catrina Thomas was an unchallenged winner of the 800m in 2m 35.7s.  The talented Hannah Dunderdale notched a trio of successes in the U15 Girls events.  She won the 75m Hurdles in 12.5s, the 200m in 27.3s and also scored in the Javelin with a throw of 29.64m.  The Wellington U17 Women produced some very good results and Ellis Whyler led the way by taking the 80m Hurdles in 13.10s, the Long Jump with 4.64m and the Shot with 8.89m.  Sarah Stanhope was also in treble winning mode with victories in the Javelin (25.99m), Discus (25.64m) and Hammer (39.35m).  Rachel Mortimer won the 200m in 29.30s and dead-heated with clubmate Amy-May Sanders in the 100m in 14.10s.  The 800m went to Jasmine Cornwell in 2m 37.4s and Sheridan McWilliam took the 3000m in 12m 11.4s.  Shireen Timmis picked up a sprint double in the U20 Women age group with 13.40s in the 100m and 28.00s in the 200m.  And Georgia Ball eased home in the 800m in 2m 27.1s.  Susie Ardron was the only Wellington athlete in the veteran events but a useful winning time of 11m 49.4s in the 3000m got her season off to a good start.

There were more good sprint results from the Wellington boys and Alex Humberstone took the U13 100m in 13.70s and the 200m in 28.10s.  Sam Chapman recorded a similar double in the U15 Boys age group with 12.80s in the 100m and 26.10s in the 200m.  Richard Brine won the 1500m in 4m 59.2s and Dylan Love took the 3000m in 11m 03.1s.  There was a trio of excellent field wins for Liam Clarke with 33.23m in the Javelin, 30.09m in the Discus and 9.97m in the Shot.  The club’s sprint domination continued in the U17 age group with Tom Mathews taking the 100m in 11.6s and the 200m in 23.0s.  Joe Dunderdale showed his versatility by winning the 100m Hurdles in 16.40s and also scoring in the Javelin with 48.81m and the Shot with 10.87m.  The 1500m went to Jack Culpin with 4m 41.4s.  In the U20 age group, Jack Cornwell won the 800m in 2m 10.2s and Shane Robinson led home a big field in the 3000m in 9m 06.2s.  The Senior 3000m went to Josh Stone in 9m 12.5s.  In the Veteran Men’s events, Malc Bramhall cleaned up the sprints with 12.7s in the 100m, 25.7s in the 200m and 56.2s in the 400m.  Andy Dunderdale was perpetual motion and contested nearly every event emerging with four successes.  On the track he took the 1500m in 4m 38.9s and the 3000m in 10m 08.5s and, in the field, he won the High Jump with 1.45m and the Pole Vault with 2.30m.  A final success went to Brendan Sykes in the Shot with 9.97m.
