Lincs XC League
Match 1 - RAF Cranwell
26 October 2008

With a remarkable seven team successes together with four individual winners Lincoln Wellington athletes dominated at the opening Lincolnshire League cross country match of the season at RAF Cranwell.  Blue Haywood soon had the Senior Women's field well strung out and made all the running for a convincing win.  Lucinda Pitcher was the only one to stay remotely in touch and she chased hard all the way to finish a good 2nd.  Rochelle Harrison made a good start to the winter with 4th place and a little further back the Wellington squad was completed by Janette Dunderdale (16th), Ellie Clarke (23rd), Pat Kimpton (46th) and Dot Fraser (47th).  Bo Haywood followed her elder sister’s example and easily won the U13 Girls race.  Emma Tonner (3rd) and Abbey Donnelly (4th) completed the winning team.  Dylan Love was a good winner of the U13 Boy’s race with Nathan Fawcett in 8th place and Michael Harper 10th recording another team success.  The final individual winner was Hester Talbot who led all the way to hold off Frances Aitchison in the U17 Women’s race.  Laura Clarke in 8th spot ensured the team win. A good Wellington turnout in the U15 Boys race was led in by Matt Bee in 2nd place.  Jack Culpin and Adam Baker were 4th and 5th to notch a team victory and were followed by Sam Chapman (12th), Lewis Goddard (16th), Luke Martin (22nd), Josh and Connor Malt (24th and 25th) with Jake Moss, 26th, completing the squad.

Laura Donnelly claimed the runner-up spot in the U15 Girls race and was followed by Sheridan McWilliam in 4th place and Rebecca Wells 5th.  Jasmine Cornwell (7th), Lucy Helas (11th), Caitlyn Lynch (12th) and Vicky Lawrence (14th) completed another strong Wellington team.  Declan Dickinson was the only Wellington U11 Boy competing but a strong run saw him cross the line in 2nd place.  In the U11 Girls race Lauren Ward in 5th was first back for Wellington followed by Olivia Crowther (9th), Rhiannon Martin (12th), Hollie Dickinson (14th) and Georgina Campion (16th).  Only two of the Wellington U17 Men faced the starter with Ryan Stevenson finishing a good 3rd and Kyle Fawcett taking 12th place.

A lot of Wellington’s senior men opted to miss the race in favour of next weekend’s National Cross Country Relays at Mansfield and Mark Baddeley led the club contingent home in 4th position. New member Mark Greenwood followed in 6th with Shane Robinson 7th and Craig Maskell 13th.  Veteran John Hughes did well to pick up 14th place with Neil Coney (23rd), Phil Malt (33rd), Gary Heath (37th) and Darren Holian 39th.
