A superb bronze medal performance from the Lincoln Wellington U13 Girls team was the highlight of some excellent running by the club’s young athletes at the National Road Relays at Birmingham.
Catrina Thomas got the U13 squad straight into contention and returned in 13th place on the first leg with a time of
15m 25s. Rhiannon Philps made a big forward move on leg two and handed over to Bo Haywood in 5th place with a fine time of
15m 22s. And the latter secured the bronze medal for the club with a terrific run to clinch 3rd spot in
14m 56s. Abbie Donnelly had a solo run on the first leg for the B team and finished 30th in
16m 11s. The U17 Girls team also did extremely well to finish in 7th place – just over a minute outside the medal positions.
Hester Talbot led off with a good effort for 17th place in 14m 48s on leg 1 before Georgia Ball picked up a remarkable 12 places on leg 2 in a very creditable time of
14m 19s. Despite losing a couple of places on the last leg Ellie Jones held it together well to cross the line in
15m 11s. Frances Aitchison returned in 29th position with 15m 35s on the opening leg for the B
team and Holly Haywood picked up one place on leg two in 16m 11s.
Nathan Page took the 1st leg for the U17 Mens team and returned in 12m
36s for 23rd place. Ronnie Wilson’s 12m 38s on leg two gained him six places before Stuart Campbell lost a couple of places with
12m 59s on the final leg to see the team home in 19th place. Jack Skeet and Ian Maplethorpe ran identical times of
13m 18s on the first two legs for the incomplete B team. Libbie Reid did well to finish 24th on the opening leg of the
U15 Girls race in a time of 15m 05s. Megan Ball dropped five places on leg two with
15m 36s and Sheridan McWilliam conceded a further three places on the final leg to finish 32nd in
16m 13s. The B team of Nicola Isaacs (16m 26s), Becky Wells (16m
59s) and Laura Donnelly (16m 51s) were a little further back in 55th place at the finish.
For the U15 Boys team, Matt Bee completed the opener in 13m 35s for 34th spot.
Jack Culpin slipped back four places with 14m 12s on leg 2 before Adam Baker brought the squad home 35th in
14m 12s.
Some of the Wellington squad will be out again at Sunday’s Lincolnshire League cross country meeting at RAF Cranwell and the team will be out in force again on
1st Nov for the National Cross Country Relays at Mansfield.
