Northern Junior Road Relays
Liverpool
5 October 2008

Superb running from the Lincoln Wellington U13 Girls squad brought them the team gold medals at the North of England young athletes road relays at Croxteth Park Liverpool. Catrina Thomas got the team away to a very good start with a time of 12m 29s for 7th place on the opening leg. The very promising Rhiannon Philps took over on leg two and picked up five places with time of 12m 26s to hand over to Bo Haywood in 2nd place. The latter then scorched round the circuit in 11m 56s – the 2nd fastest leg of the race – to secure the gold medals by a thumping margin of over 40 seconds. Host club Liverpool Harriers were the runners-up with many of the other top Northern teams left some way further back. This was a remarkable result for the Lincoln club and the squad can now look forward with confidence to challenging for honours at the National Road Relays and also the National Cross Country Relays in the next few weeks. In the same race Abbie Donnelly had a solo run for the B team on the opening leg and did well to record 13m 13s for 13th place.

There were more medals for Wellington in the U17 Womens race with the A team taking a fine 3rd place in a high class field. Georgia Ball was home in 5th place on leg one with a time of 14m 05s. Frances Aitchison picked up one place on the 2nd leg with 15m 15s and Hester Talbot ran strongly on the final leg to secure the bronze medals with a time of 14m 35s. Holly Haywood brought the B team home in 14th place with 15m 43s on leg one. Becky Dobson improved two places to 12th in 15m 52s on leg two and Ellie Jones produced a good final leg to take the squad through to a creditable 10th place in 15m 06s. Gemma Selwood ran the opening leg for the C team in this race and finished 16th in 16m 02s with sprinter Mary-Ann Phillips doing well to pick up one place on the 2nd leg with 16m 37s for 15th position. There was some good running from the strong U17 Mens team with Nathan Page recording a fast time of 12m 15s for 9th place on the 1st leg. Ian Maplethorpe picked up one place with 12m 48s on leg 2 and Jack Skeet brought the team home 8th in 13m 33s. For the B team Stuart Campbell did very well with 12m 30s for 12th place on leg one. Ronnie Wilson ran a great 2nd leg to move up to 7th in 12m 28s before Ryan Stevenson dropped back to 21st at the finish in 16m 11s. Jon Humberstone (13m 33s) and Jacob Wright (13m 14s) both did very well for the incomplete C team which were placed 17th at the end of leg 2.

Laura Donnelly led off the U15 Girls A squad and finished 31st in 13m 26s. Megan Ball picked up eight places for 23rd spot in 13m 09s and Libbie Reid brought the team through to 17th place at the finish with a good time of 12m 25s. Sheridan McWilliam (13m 17s), Becky Wells (14m 13s) and Nichola Isaacs (13m 24s) finished 25th for the Wellington B team. The U15 Boys had Matt Bee on the first leg and he was back in 11m 24s for 18th place. Jack Culpin moved up to 16th in 11m 38s and Adam Baker lost just one place on the last leg to bring the squad home in 17th position in 12m 02s.
