With several prominent members of the regular squad absent a 4th place finish for the Lincoln Wellington senior team in the North of England Plate competition at Sport City Manchester was a satisfactory conclusion to the club’s 2008 track and field season.

62.93s. She also ran the anchor leg for the 4 x 400m relay team which finished in 2nd place. Georgia Ball was the other outright winner for Wellington with a win in the 1500m in
4m 58.19s. Team captain Nina Swaby finished 3rd in the 400m Hurdles in 74.38s and followed with 4th position in the 100m
Hurdles in 19.38s. A good effort from Hester Talbot gave her the runner-up spot in the 3000m in
11m 01.72s and there were useful points in the sprints from Shireen Timmis who was 3rd in the 100m in 13.30s and from Laura Ware with 4th place in the 200m in
28.20s. The best field event result came from Hayley Fox with a
Pole Vault clearance of 2.20m for 3rd place and she was also 7th in the
Discus with 18.95m. Denise Timmis was 4th in the Long Jump with 4.52m and sprinter Mary-ann Phillips picked up useful
High Jump points with 1.40m for 5th place. Further points were scored by Kathy Warhurst in the
Hammer (19.86m), Tina Suddell in the Javelin (20.57m) and Becky Sullivan in the
Shot (8.03m).
There were no outright winners for the men’s team but Will Strangeway

Marc Afford also grabbed 2nd spot in the 110m Hurdles in 18.85s and completed a busy afternoon with 5th places in both the 3000m
Steeplechase (11m 04.63s) and 400m Hurdles (62.15s). A couple of strong efforts in the sprints gave Matt Meanwell 3rd place in the 100m in 11.40s and 4th position in the 200m in
23.29s. Shane Robinson was 5th in the 5000m in 17m 27.94s and Max Ware took 7th place in the 400m in
54.72s. Matt Houlden was a good 2nd in the Triple Jump with 13.08m and also came 6th in the
Long Jump with 5.85m. Team captain Jim Slater was 5th in Discus with 36.49m and was also 6th in the
Shot and 8th in the Hammer. And the final points total was boosted by Josh Spering with 5th place in the
Pole Vault (2.50m) and Malc Bramhall who cleared 1.55m for 7th in the
High Jump.
The next major competition for the club’s senior athletes is the North of England road relays at Hartlepool on
27th September where a very strong looking men’s team will be looking to mount a powerful challenge to the top teams from the North. The club’s younger athletes will wait a further week before they also bid for medals at the Northern road relays.
