Northern T&F League
Match 2 - Doncaster
7 June 2008

A strong all round performance gave the Lincoln Wellington senior team 3rd place in their 2nd Northern League Division 2 match of the season at Doncaster. The return of multi-eventer Lydia Chamberlin considerably strengthened the squad and she won the 100m Hurdles, equalling her club record of 15.1, and the High Jump with a stadium record of 1.65m. She also went on to pick up some further good points in the Javelin and Shot. Shireen Timmis and Mary-Ann Phillips continued their fine seasons with some excellent sprint performances. Timmis took the 100m in 13.0s and the B 200m in 26.5s while Phillips was successful in the A 200m in 26.3s and was a very close 2nd in the B 100m in 13.2s. Blue Haywood made all the running but was caught near the line in the 1500m and had to settle for 2nd place in 4m 45.8s. In a very fast 800m she finished in 5th place in 2m 24.8s. The B 1500m went to Lucinda Pitcher with a strongly run personal best of 4m 46.9s and there was also a personal best for Georgia Ball who was 3rd in the B 800m in 2m 19.7s. There were good points for the club in the 3000m with Harriet Canter taking 2nd spot in 10m 35.6s and Francis Aitchison-Boundy finishing runner-up in the B race in a personal best 10m 59.1s. The A 400m was a high quality contest and Lara Thomas ran well to finish 5th in 60.5s. Katrina Sutcliffe picked up 4th place in the B race in 67.5s and was also 2nd in the 400m hurdles in 78.5s. Nina Swaby was 3rd in the 100m hurdles in 19.3s and, on a busy afternoon, was also in the points in the Javelin, High Jump and Triple Jump. Hayley Fox also did sterling work in the field with 3rd places in the discus (24.15m) and hammer (23.36m) and 4th spot in the pole vault with 2.30m. Denise Timmis notched 5th place in the long jump with a leap of 4.56m.

Matt Houlden produced the performance of the day for the men’s team with a fine winning Triple Jump clearance of 13.21m. He was also in the points in the B 100m, the Long Jump and the high jump. On the track there was a very impressive 400m win for Steve Gregory in a personal best 50.0s. Jack Skeet took 3rd place in the B 400m in a personal best 53.0s. A couple of good performances from Marc Afford gave him a win in the 110m Hurdles in 18.4s and 3rd place in the 400m Hurdles in 60.6s. Ryan Smith was runner-up in the B 400m Hurdles in 62.4s and Adey White took the same place in the B 110m Hurdles in 20.1s. The latter also claimed a club record in the V35 age group with 38.92m for 3rd place in the Javelin and then cleared 3.10m in the Pole Vault for 3rd place. Josh Stone (17m 01.2s) and Jon Hughes (17m 30.8s) were 3rd in the A and B 5000m races respectively and two of the club’s younger athletes performed very well in the 3000m Steeplechase. Max Ware was 3rd in the A race in 11m 11.8s and Josh Spering won the B contest in 11m 14.7s. The latter proved his versatility with 3rd place in the B Pole Vault with a clearance of 2.50m.
