Northern U17/U15 Championships
Wigan
24-25 May 2008

A group of Wellington athletes found some tough opposition at the North of England U17/U15 Championships at Wigan.

Stuart Campbell was the most successful of the Wellington squad and a very good effort brought him the silver medal in the 1500m Steeplechase in a time of 4m 40.38s. Chris Woodger qualified for the final of the U17 Mens 800m by finishing 4th in his heat in 2m 03.8s. A creditable performance in the final saw him take 4th place in a time of 2m 04.45s.  Ian Maplethorpe had a sound run to place 10th in the U17 Mens 3000m in 9m 30.86s.

In the U17 Womens 300m Mary-Ann Phillips did well to pick up 3rd place in her heat in a good time of 42.13s. In a high quality final she finished in 7th spot in 42.42s.  Hester Talbot and Georgia Ball both contested the U17 Womens 1500m with the former finishing 8th in her heat in 4m 59.72s which was not sufficient to see her into the final. The latter recorded 4m 50.54s in her heat which did see her through to the final, but in a very tough race she finished in 11th place in 4m 53.35s. Megan Ball was 6th in her heat of the U15 Girls 800m in 2m 31.0s.  Laura Maplethorpe was the only athlete from Wellington to contest a field event but a hammer throw of 24.22m gave her 5th place and an U15 Girls club record.
