BMC PB Classic & Grand Prix
Watford
17 May 2008

There were some excellent performances from the Wellington athletes who travelled down to Watford on Saturday. These meetings with their graded races and pacemakers give the athletes every opportunity to record fast times and the Lincoln representatives took full advantage. Weather conditions were ideal - cool, overcast and mainly still with the odd patch of light drizzle. Added to that, all events are electronically timed with full photo finish and manual back up.

The PB Classic meeting started the evening off, in the Girls 800m C race, Hester Talbot was unfortunate in that her designated pacemaker went through the first lap 5s ahead of schedule.  Undaunted, Hester battled on to finish 2nd in a new season's best time of 2m 23.49s, a fraction outside her PB. Blue Haywood competed in the Girls 1500m A race and also got a seasons best with 4m 40.5s for 9th place. In the 1500m C race, Catrina Thomas had a superb run to come home 9th with a new PB of 5m 15.32s, followed in 11th place by Bo Haywood in 5m 26.92s.

In the Nike Grand Prix meeting, with impressive prize money available, the standard of competition is always high, with many of the country's top middle distance and endurance athletes taking part. There was a very positive run from Lara Thomas in the Womens 800m C race.  In an almost blanket finish, Lara placed 4th, shaving a few tenths off her previous best time to record 2m 16.09s. There was also a PB for Shane Robinson who placed 7th in the 2000m steeplechase in a time of 6m 22.29s.

Frances Aitchison and Holly Haywood were put into the Womens 3000 A race owing to insufficient entries for their race in the PB Classic meeting. The standard was very high but both girls relished the experience, Frances was a little off colour on the day and slightly disappointed with her time of 11m 11.19s to place 14th. In 16th place, Holly was delighted to slash 7s off her PB with a time of 11m 28.42s.

These performances helped move Lincoln Wellington up to 19th place in the Young Athletes virtual league.
