A group of Lincoln Wellington athletes made the journey to the Loughborough Open meeting and, despite having to cope with the
prevailing cool and breezy conditions, they notched up some good early season performances. Hannah Dunderdale soon had a win
on the board when taking the U15 Girls 100m in 14.2s. Ian Maplethorpe won his heat of the U17 Mens 200m in
28.1s and, in the same age group, Joe Dunderdale was 2nd in the 100m in 14.3s. Jack Cornwell picked up a useful 2nd place in the
U20 Mens 400m in 56.5s and there were several good Wellington results in the series of time-graded 800m races which
followed. Catrina Thomas was runner-up in race 3 in an excellent U13 Girls time of 2m 38.9s. Gavin Campbell occupied the
same position in race 4 in 2m 22.7s. And a fine effort from Jon Humberstone gave him victory in race 5 in 2m 12.9s with Jack
Cornwell 3rd in 2m 14.2s and Lara Thomas a very pleasing 4th in 2m 17.0s – setting her up for a good season. Two further
promising runs came in race 6 with Chris Woodger taking 2nd place in a good time of 2m 04.9s and Stuart Campbell also doing well
to finish 5th in 2m 08.3s. In the 3000m, Mark Baddeley crossed the line 3rd in 9m 31.7s with Nathan Page 6th in 9m 43.0s, Max
Ware 7th in 10m 27.6s and Paul Samways 8th in 10m 41.8s.
