Inter-Counties XC Championships
Wollaton Park, Nottingham
15 March 2008

The cross country season finally reached its climax at the Inter Counties meeting around the hilly circuit of Nottingham’s Wollaton Park. There was a significant Lincoln Wellington presence in most of the Lincolnshire teams and all the club’s athletes acquitted themselves well in the most demanding event of the winter. Blue Haywood made a late decision to move up an age group to bid for a place in the Great Britain U20 team at the forthcoming World Championships. She ran strongly all the way but could not quite get amongst the leading pack and eventually finished a creditable 19th. Georgia Ball concluded an excellent winter season with a fine 19th place in the U17 Womens race. Rochelle Harrison had her best run over the country to finish 75th in the same race with Frances Aitchison crossing the line in 97th and Holly Haywood 185th. Wellington provided all four scorers in the U15 Boys team with Nathan Page leading the way in 21st spot. Ian Maplethorpe was not too well before the race but decided to run and did well to come home 69th. Matt Bee produced an excellent effort to finish 147th with Joe Dunderdale the final scorer in 208th place. Tom Doe had a good run in a massively competitive Senior Mens race and finished strongly to pick up 41st position. Ian Kimpton also did very well to be just a little further back in 53rd - his best placing to date in the Senior race. Phil Williams 194th and Craig Maskell 234th helped the Lincolnshire team to the top nine-man team trophy. Harriet Canter was first Lincolnshire athlete home in the Senior Womens race in 99th place with veteran Susie Ardron 234th and Sarah Kimpton 252nd. In the U13 Boys race, Haran Dunderdale produced another solid performance to finish 93rd with Richard Brine a little further back in 234th spot. Five Wellington girls represented the county in the U15’s race. Laura Donnelly was first back in 109th with Libby Read just behind in 119th. Hester Talbot followed this pair in 183rd place with Megan Ball 194th and Ellie Jones 230th completing the quintet. There was also a strong Wellington contingent in the U17 Mens race. Shane Robinson crossed the line 159th and was followed in by Max Ware 161st, Chris Woodger 167th and Stuart Campbell 215th. Paul Samways did well to finish 185th in a strong U20 Mens field. And Abby Donnelly completed the Wellington turnout with 228th place in the U13 Girls race. |
