The powerful Lincoln Wellington veteran’s squad launched their indoor season with some great results at the Eastern
Veterans Championships at Lea Valley Stadium. Dot Fraser led the way with a trio of gold medals to add to her impressive collection. Competing in the W70 category she won the 60 metres in 10.6s, the 200m in 37.4s and completed the hat-trick by taking the 400m title in
91.1s. Denise Timmis also struck gold with a fine leap of 4.34m, winning her the W45 long jump competition. John Moore competed in the M55 category and his three second places included two new Wellington indoor records. The first of these came in the 60m with a time of 8.5s. He picked up a second club record with 27.0s in the 200m and finished with a good effort for the runner-up spot in the 400m in
62.5s. Betty Stracey was the final athlete on the start line and she did very well to take 2nd place in the 1500m in the W65 category in 7m 36.1s. The British Masters Pentathlon Championships were held at the same venue and a terrific performance from Geoff Powley saw him collect the bronze medal in the M45 category with 2996 points. His long jump of 4.89m and his high jump of 1.57m were both new Wellington records in his age group and he added to these efforts with 10.8s in the 60m hurdles, 8.78m in the shot and 3m 05.3s in the 800m. |
