An amazing eight team titles and five individual winners gave Lincoln Wellington
AC a near monopoly of the results at the County Cross Country Championships over the tough London Road circuit at Louth. The Wellington U17 Mens team has already produced some outstanding results this winter and there was total dominance in their race with Tom Straw crossing the line first just ahead of Shane Robinson 2nd and Stuart Campbell a close 3rd. Chris Woodger followed this trio in 5th place with Max Ware 7th and Neil Humberstone 17th. A second clean sweep for Wellington came in the U15 Boys race which was won fairly comfortably by Nathan Page with Ian Maplethorpe 2nd and Matt Bee 3rd. Wellington also claimed the 2nd team award in this race with Joe Dunderdale taking 4th spot from Ryan Stevenson 6th and Adam Baker 7th. Ryan Paul was a close up 8th to complete a remarkable squad result. A final 1-2-3 for Wellington came in the U17 Womens race where Georgia Ball pulled clear in the closing stages for a fairly comfortable win from long time leader Lara Thomas with Rochelle Harrison completing the winning team in 3rd place. Holly Haywood was a little further back in 5th. In the senior women’s race Harriet Canter proved she had shaken off a Christmas illness by leading all the way over a very long course. Lucinda Pitcher ran strongly for 2nd and Jane Clarke picked up 4th spot to complete an easy team win. Susie Ardron kept on well for 6th place and with Janette Dunderdale 8th and Sylvia Strangeway 10th the Wellington ‘B’ squad were 2nd team. Haran Dunderdale was the final Wellington individual winner when taking the U13 Boys race in impressive style. Dylan Love 4th and Richard Brine 5th gave Wellington another comfortable team success. The senior men’s race produced a convincing pillar to post performance from Ian Boneham, who trains with the Wellington squad but runs for Notts AC. This could not prevent Wellington taking a further team title with Ian Kimpton picking up 2nd place ahead of Josh Stone 6th and Phil Williams 8th. Craig Maskell ran well for a long way before finishing 10th and Mark Baddeley kept on well after a fall to finish 14th. A strong run from Art Connolly gave him 2nd place in the veteran men’s event. There was a big Wellington turnout in the U15 Girls race with Hester Talbot coming out on top in 3rd position. Libbie Read 4th and Ellie Jones 6th completed the winning team with the Wellington ‘B’ team of Megan Ball 7th, Laura Donnelly 9th and Gemma Selwood 10th collecting the silver medals. A final Wellington team win came in the U20 Mens race with Paul Samways taking 4th place from Alex Thomas 5th and Beren Cross 6th. In the U13 Girls race Hannah Dunderdale led in the early stages before finishing in 3rd spot some way ahead of Abbie Donnelly 9th and Lucy Helas 12th to give the team 2nd place. In the U11 event, Catrina Thomas ran an excellent race to finish 1st
overall and 1st Girl. She was followed home by Alex Humberstone and Alex
Willerton, who were 2nd and 3rd overall and 1st and 2nd Boys. They were
followed home by Caitlyn Haywood. All of these are now looking forward to
competing in the U13 age group and look good prospects. |
