English Schools T&F Championships
Birmingham
13-14 July 2007

Six young athletes from Lincoln Wellington acquitted themselves very well at this years English Schools Championships at Alexandra Stadium Birmingham. In the Intermediate Girls 3000m, Blue Haywood was always in the leading group and took up the running around the halfway point. She could not quite shake of the chasing pack however and in the final dash for the line she finished in 4th place in 9m 50.64s.  In atrocious conditions on the Friday afternoon, Georgia Ball just made it through to the final of the Intermediate Girls 1500m by finishing 6th in her heat in 4m 47.84s.  Conditions were better for Saturday's final and she ran a very strong race to finish in 8th place with a new personal best time of 4m 44.27s.

Mary-Ann Phillips competed in the Junior Girls 200m and ran an excellent heat to finish a close 2nd in 26.23s.  In the semi-final she again ran well but, in a very tight finish, her 6th place in 26.65s was not quite enough to see her to the final.  Caitlyn Lynch got a taste of top class competition in the same event and was not at all disgraced to finish 7th in her heat in 27.43s.

In the Intermediate Girls 800m, Lara Thomas was always chasing the leading group in her heat and finished a close up 4th in 2m 18.52s. After six competitive heats in her event she missed out by just one place on qualifying for the semi-finals.

Shane Robinson was making his debut at this level of competition in the Intermediate Boys 1500m steeplechase. He went very well for some way but a couple of untidy water jumps cost him some momentum and he eventually finished in 10th place in 4m 46.45s. He will benefit greatly from the experience.
