First off were the U17 Men (6k). The calibre of opposition was exceptional and 6 Wellington runners lined up for the start.
Tom Straw had a strong start but faded a little in the latter stages came home in 77th place. Just behind Tom in 80th
position was a great run from Shane Robinson. Next home was Josh Spering in 118th whose improvement this year has been
excellent. Jack Cornwell was the next Lincoln runner home in 164th to give the team 17th place. Gav Campbell had an excellent
run for his best race of the season for 166th and Beren Cross was a little off his best and finished in 168th.
The next race was the U13 Girls (3k). Megan Ball went very strongly at the beginning of the race and was looking strong in
the top 10. Unfortunately she faded in the second half of the race but still finished in a highly respectable 30th place.
Next home was an inspired run by young Caitlin Lynch. After a solid start Caitlin finished strong to finish in an excellent
33rd position. This is an outstanding run and should boost her confidence for future races. A few places behind was Hannah
Dunderdale who ran well for 36th place. Not far behind for a solid run in 86th place was Sheridan McWilliam, which brought
the team home in an excellent 5th place. Becky Wells ran well to finish
131st. Jasmine Cornwell was next home for a good run in 157th and Katie McMunn ran well for
172nd.
Next off was the U15 Boys (3.7k) who were confident of getting amongst the medals. A strong run and first home for
Wellington was Jack Skeet in 8th place. An impressive run in a high quality field. Next in was an inspired run by Stuart
Campbell who for an athlete of limited experience and training finished in an excellent 27th position. The next two home
were relatively newcomers to running, Jack Thomas and Ian Maplethorpe. Jack had a strong run for 56th and Ian, who got
boxed in and bumped at times, came home in 63rd. Both will have learned greatly from the experience and will have another
bite at the cherry in this age group next year. Good news came when the team heard that they had secured the bronze team
medal. Joe Dunderdale was the next home with a good run for 117th place. Again Joe has another chance next year.
Next up was the Senior Women (8k). Harriet Canter was the clubs first representative home with an excellent run for 19th
place. Rebecca Rowley was next home with an excellent 102nd position, with Tertia Richie in 159th and Janette Dunderdale
203rd to bring the team home in an impressive 19th out of 34 teams.
The U15 Girls (3.7k) was the next race and after winning the trophy last year hopes were high. Georgia Ball ran strong from
the start and looked impressive all the way through. In a classy field she dug in and finished looking strong in a fantastic
6th position. The next in was Hester Talbot. Thick mud is not her favourite conditions but she battled hard after a
strong start and finish well for 47th place. Next home for the team was an excellent run from Ellie Jones. An athlete who is
has produced some great results lately came home with a big smile in 71st. This was enough to give the team a well deserved
Silver team medal. Holly Haywood had a solid run for 109th and Jenny Vigurs finished well in 136th.
The U17 Women (4.5k) was the next race and Blue Haywood ran an excellent race to finish in 2nd place. This was the highest
finishing position of the club and is more impressive considering she has next year in this age group. This was backed up
in 33rd place by Lara Thomas, who is having a strong season. Relative newcomer Katrina Sutcliffe performed
with pride. In a high quality race Katrina acquitted herself well and finished in 88th. To complete the team was Ellie Clarke
finished in 98th place which brought the team home in a very respectable 5th place.
Next off was the Senior Men (11.45k). Unfortunately many of the clubs strongest athletes didn't race. For the one's that did
run Phil Williams faired the best with a solid run for 126th. Next home was Mark Baddeley who struggled in the conditions
for 217th place, although bizarrely he thinks he was 1999th. Not far behind was Andy Dunderdale who finished well for 228th. Next home for a good run was Steve Campion.
Steve came home in 316th, a fine effort in the muddy conditions. The team was backed up by John Holmes who for a man of
vintage, ran superbly for 378th and Brian Fox also ran well for 396th. It was great to see our road group in these races, I
hope this continues and more come along in the future. The team finished in 29th position.
Lincoln Wellington only had one representative in the U20 Womens race (6k). This was Harriett Needham who ran well to finish
in a respectable 30th position.
In the final race of the day was the U20 Men (7.7k) in which three Wellington athletes lined up. Josh Stone (not the singer)
was first home in a solid performance of 41st. Next in was Mark Plaskett who ran well for 79th place and Alex Thomas after
battling with 3 colds in a row over Christmas got round the course in a creditable 91st place.
Well done everyone who ran and many thanks to those who helped on the day. The day was a great success. at website@lwac.org.uk

Heaton Park, Manchester
27 January 2007
Heaton Park, Manchester was the venue for the Northern Cross Country Championships on Saturday
27th January. The quality of the opposition is always exceptional at these Championships, but the
'Wellies' acquitted
themselves well and there were some great performances. The rain stayed away but under footing was still very muddy on a
tough hilly course.
