LWAC - Lincs Athletics Awards - Sleaford

The county's best athletes, volunteers and clubs were honoured at the second annual Lincolnshire Athletics Awards held at Lincolnshire Oak, Sleaford. Lincoln residents took away nine awards including Lincoln & District Runners as best Off Road club. Lincoln Wellington received top honours winning Junior Club and Track & Field club.

Following a successful season, the counties top athletes were honoured with international athlete Vikki Hubbard and Lara Thomas gaining Lincolnshire Junior awards. Having received her first senior international vest during 2006 despite still only being a junior, Grantham's Vikki leaped to the tp of the UK in both U20 and senior age groups. From Lincoln, middle distance athlete Lara gained selection to he first ever UK School Games.

Boston's athletes also gained top honours for Lincolnshire. Combined eventer Jake Mason gained 6 personal bests and two county and regional records during 2006 placing top junior for the county. Senior female Julia White sprinted to two personal bests during 2006 and finished sixth in the national points rankings for the UK. After numerous years of injury and frustration, Julia is now back in the UK rankings.

The hard work of Lincoln Wellington chairwoman, Kathleen Warhurst didn't go unnoticed. After being shortlisted for UK Club Officer of 2006, Kathleen received a special commemorative award in recognition of her efforts within the club. Kathleen has been at the forefront of driving the club forward and recognised for her work with gaining national accreditation.

Two Lincolnshire officials received special honours after gaining selection to officiate at the European Championships in March. Arthur Fox and Richard Dennis will travel to the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham to volunteer at the high class competition.
