North of England Young Athletes Road Relays
Sport City, Manchester

A group of Lincoln Wellington AC athletes travelled to the Sport City stadium at Manchester recently to take part in the Northern road relays.  Arriving on a sunny morning, the coaches sorted out the teams of three.

First to the start areas were the u13 girls comprising of Megan Ball, Vicki Lawrence and Sheridan McWilliam running as the 'A' team and Jasmine Cornwell competing in the first leg as 'B' team.

Megan, taking the first leg of the 2000m course finished in 18th place in a time of 11m 05s. Sheridan ran the second leg completing it in 11m 50s for 16th place and Vicki ran the final leg bringing the A team home in a time of 11m 22s for 15th place. The overall standing for the girls 'A' team was 13th, Jasmine Cornwell completed her first road relay confidently in a time of 12m 02s, in 35th place.

Five athletes teamed up for the u15 girls relay, the 'A' team consisting of Hester Talbot on the first leg, bringing the team a great start finishing in 14th place in 10m 35s, and Georgia Ball, running a very confident last leg gaining another two places finishing in 7th place in an excellent time of 10m 09s. The team placing was 7th overall in a time of 31m 14s. Whilst for the 'B' team Jess Farnsworth and Eleanor Jones finished the course in a total time of 38m 16s.

The two teams for the u15 boys recorded some excellent times, Jack Skeet taking to the course first for the 'A' team finishing very strong in 3rd place with a time of 8m 53s, then Jack Thomas who also came back into the stadium with a good time of 9m 21s in 2nd place, and the final leg was taken on by Jonathan Humberstone who finished in 6th place in 9m 42s, the team standing being 6th in a time of 27m 56s.

The 'B' team for the u15s comprised of Stuart Cambell crossing the line in 16th place in a very good time of 9m 42s then Ian Mablethorpe who picked up three places with a time of 9m 55s in 13th place and for the last leg M. Dale bringing the 'B' team home in a time of 10m 34s, 19th place giving the overall time of 29.57sec, 19th place.

The U17 women faced tough competition, only fielding an 'A' team, Lara Thomas competed in the first leg finishing the route in a time of 12m 38s in 15th place, Blue Haywood set out on the second leg picking up the pace to not only finish in 2nd place, but also in the quickest time out of the u17s in 10m 49s. Siobhan Wasyliw took over from Blue for the final leg and ran a fantastic time of 13m 14s finishing in 5th place, the ladies efforts gave them a final position of 5th place in a time of 36m 51s.

In the u17 men's category Elliot Haywood took the first leg finishing in 19th place in 10m 49s, leading to Ben Rowe into the second leg completing it in 12m 02s in 21st place, Shane Robinson pulled back a place in the final leg finishing in 20th place in a time of 11m 03s. Josh Spering ran as the 'B' team for the u17s, crossing the line in 35th place in 12m 05s.
