Poznan - Poland

A small contingent of LWAC athletes travelled to Poznan
in Poland to take part in the above international and, after a very good competition, all arrived back in one piece.
Denise Timmis competed in the W45 Long Jump. Finishing in 9th place, Denise jumped
4.60m, suffering an Achilles injury. Denise also ran an impressive 200m heat.
Betty Stracey took part in the W65 age group. Running in temperatures in excess of 90 degrees, Betty completed the 10,000m in a remarkable 55m
07.84s and finished overall in 4th place. In the 5000m Betty also gained 4th place with a solid performance
with a time of 25m 09.68s. Betty also took part in the 1500m race finishing 5th with a time of
6m 47.86s (season best). Betty's final events were the W65 age group 4x100 relay
followed by the 4x400m relay and her impressive stamina earned her 2 silver medals.
Dot Fraser also competed in the W65 age group. In the 100m Dot came third with a time of
16.84s gaining a Bronze Medal. In the 200m she finished in Silver place with a time of
34.83s both of these being seasons best performances for Dot. She then came 4th in the 400m and ran the last legs of the 4x100m and 4x400m relay and was awarded two silver medals for her performances. Dot
is now looking forward to next year when she shall be competing in the W70 age group in Helsinki.
