Lincoln Wellington held the second of their road races last Wednesday evening and
considering the sweltering conditions a good number of competitors arrived from around the county to take part in the
events three distances of 1k, 3k and 5k.
The evening catered for all ages, with the first off the start line being the U11s, who set off on the 1k race,
following a route around the athletic clubs training ground, the youngsters showed true grit and determination. First
to finish was Bo Haywood with a fantastic time of 3m 28s just beating Alex Humberstone who crossed the line first for
the boys in 3m 29s. Second place for the girls went to Catrina Thomas in
3m 49s and third to Laura Maxfield in 4m 33s. Whilst second place for the boys went to Dylan Love in
3m 32s and third to Cameron Titchmash in 4m 00s.
The event then moved onto the 3km race for the U13s and U15s age group. Again with true character the athletes
followed a route around the training ground and the adjacent cycle track. First home for the U13 boys with an
impressive time of 11m 07s was Matthew Bee who ran a very strong race, Matthew was followed in by Ryan Maxfield who
completed the distance in 13m 32s and in third place was Freddie Miller with a time of
14m 51s. Megan Ball with a
very competitive performance recorded a time of 11m 46s securing fist place for the U13 girls, shortly behind was
Caitlin Lynch with a time of 13m 00s with 3rd place going to Sheridan McWilliam in
13m 16s. With the sun beating
down on all the athletes a number of good finishes were recorded by the U15 age group. Simon Parr ran an extremely
good race finishing the event with a time of 11m 35s and less than a minute later Holly Haywood followed Simon over
the finish line with a recorded time of 12m 33s.
Then the main event of the evening, being the 5k race was completed by the more senior age groups of the county
athletes and followed a route involving several laps of the training ground and cycle track. All the competitors
ran with determination and combined were a credit to the sport.
The Veterans age group was another impressive set of results with Dean Houlton obtaining a time of
17m 01s
finishing first for the men, half a minute later was Clive Wintrip recording a time of
17m 31s followed very
closely by Steve Davies in 17m 34s. The veteran lady's race saw Tanya Taylor crossing the finish line in
20m 41s,
a few seconds later saw the arrival of Jo Campion in 20m 52s and in third place was Allison McCoy with a time of
21m 00s.
Competing in the Seniors age groups Jon Hobbs came in 1st 16m 48s, he also came in 1st place overall, 2nd Nick
Marsh 17m 11s and 3rd Ben Weaving 17m 17s, whilst for the women Harriet Cantor was 1st in
19m 00s, Rachel Mercer 2nd 23m 00s and Felicity Inder 3rd in 23m 4s.
In the U20s group Ashley Smith ran past the time keepers in a time of
17m 08s 1st, and Dexter Haywood 2nd in 18m 11s, for the women: Sarah Kimpton managed to find a final spurt to come through in a time of
21m 01s 1st and
Mia Haywood 2nd in 25m 01s.
The final age group the U17s was won by the over all third place competitor Elliot Haywood in a time of
17m 08s,
Ryan Smith 2nd in 18m 11s and 3rd Ben Rowe crossed the line in 19m 14s. For the ladies a very content Lara Thomas
finished in 1st place in a time of 21m 08s, whom throughout the race was never seen suffering, in-fact she seemed
to be constantly smiling!!
