WMA Indoor Championships
Linz, Austria
15-20 March 2006

The championships took place in a cold and snowy Linz in Austria.  Although these were indoor championships, one of the team had elected to run in the 8km and half-marathon races outside!!

In the V65 age group, Dot Fraser ran the 200m, finishing 4th in her heat in 34.94s.  She followed this up with an excellent bronze medal in the 400m with a time of 81.49s.  She also formed part of the 4x200m relay team who ran a thrilling race to finish with a silver medal in 2m 23.44s.

Betty Stracey ran in the V65 3000m race, finishing 6th in a time of 14m 49.62s.  Leaving the comfy warmth of the indoor arena, Betty then ran in the 8km cross-country finishing in 6th individual place in 46m 49.98s and 2nd team.  Not being put off by the cold, she then ran in the half-marathon, where some of the course had to be snow-ploughed so the runners could get through, she finished 7th in an outstanding time of 1h 54m 10.51s (a club record).

In the very competitive V45 age group, Denise Timmis ran the 60m and 400m.  She clocked 8.94s (a club record) in her 60m heat and followed this up with another club record in her 400m heat in 66.95s.

Congratulations to them all!

They are now looking forward to travelling to Poznan in Poland for the European Vets Outdoor Championships in the summer.
