2nd place in the 400m in 53.6. A pretty useful men’s 4x400m relay squad came back impressive winners in a nippy time of 3.33.7.
The remaining men’s field events were shared between Adey White, Keith Ridgeway and team captain Geoff Powley who all picked up useful points.
For the women’s team there was a good win by Lydia Chamberlain in the high jump with a clearance of 1.58m. She was also 2nd in the shot
with 10.55m and 2nd in the 100m hurdles in 16.7s. Lesley Bryant won the discus with 30.96m and the B shot with 10.30m. And further
good points for her came with 3rd place in the hammer and 5th spot in the javelin. Hayley Fox scored maximum points with a 2.30m clearance
in the pole vault and was also 3rd in the B discus with 16.85m. A club record of 20.5s in the V35 category gave Sharon Waller a win
in the B 100m hurdles and she followed this with another win in the B hammer with 19.58m, 3rd position in the B 100m in 15.3 and 4th in the
B long jump with 4.02m. A good leap of 4.54m gave Denise Timmis 5th place in the long jump.
There were a number of good performances in the track events with Lucinda Pitcher taking 2nd place in the 3000m in 10.52.4. Sarah Kimpton
was 2nd in the B race in 11.45.0. Liz Ward was runner up in the B 200m in 27.7 and took the same position in the B 400m in 62.2. Rowena
Harrison picked up 3rd places in both the A 400m (64.5) and A 800m (2.34.3). Kelly Gilbert also doubled up with good points in both the B
800m and 1500m. Sarah Coates was 3rd in the A 1500m in 5.13.0 and Nina Swaby was also in the points with 4th place in the 400m hurdles and
6th spot in the 100m.
There were good 3rd places for both of the women’s relay squads with times of 53.4 in the 4x100m and 4.29.1 in the 4x400m contest.
The next Northern League match will be hosted by Lincoln Wellington on Saturday 4th June, but will take place at the Grantham track as the
Yarborough facility in Lincoln is currently substandard.
Match 1 - Mansfield
1 May 2005
Three new club records in the V45 category by Nigel Winchcombe spearheaded a fine start to Lincoln
Wellington’s North of England League Division 2 campaign at Mansfield. Winchcombe won the hammer with a splendid throw of 51.26m, took the
discus with 37.89m and was runner-up in the shot with 11.61m to help the club to 2nd place on the day and hopefully launch another strong
challenge for a division 1 place.
