Walking around the course we discovered that most of the way round it was fairly flat, very mucky in places - however with
some dry marsh. One section of the course did involve a very steep, mud-covered, hill - which was about 100m long, which later
followed with a similar descent.
The under 13s raced at 11.55, running 3k around one large lap of the course - which was 3k. In total there were 153 finishers
with Georgia Ball finishing 8th with a time of 12.09 - just 40 seconds after the winner! Her team mates also did very well
and Hester Talbot soon followed in 33rd position crossing the line after 12.48. Jess Farnsworth bravely completed her first
cross-country of this scale with a great time of 15.08 finishing 137th.
Senior women followed at 12.30, which had one of the biggest fields of 166 finishers - four Lincoln Wellington ladies
competed. Tertia Ritchie, Jane Ramsden, Betty Stracey and Dot Fraser all raced in the 8k
race completing two small and two large laps. The first Wellington to cross the line was Tertia positioning her 120th
gaining a time of 38.49. Jane was 154th, finishing in 43.38, Betty followed 4 places later, 158th, with a time of
46.07 and Dot came 163rd attaining a time of 51.49. This ranked them 17th in the team category with 575 points.
Next, were the U15s; they had to run 4k - one small lap and one large lap. Representing Lincoln Wellington were Lara Thomas,
Becki Jones and Helen Penistan. Out of 143 finishers Lara was first to cross the line out of the 3 girls, placing her 46th,
with a time of 16 minutes 45 seconds, her team-mate Becki followed 2 places and 2 seconds later; Helen came in at 98th
achieving a time a 18.04.
At 1:45, the U17 women raced 2 small laps and one large lap. 94 runners took part in the 5k race and Lincoln Wellington came
7th out of all the teams. Just 3 minutes after the winner, Kelly Gilbert finished 49th attaining a time of 21:24. Layla Moore
was 55th with a time of 21.18. next, racing just under 22 minutes, 21.59 - Sarah Kimpton (with very nasty blister) came 61st.
Rachael Humberstone then came 87th in 23.40.
Cat Foley and Lucinda Pitcher were last to race in the U20s category. Both girls raced very well around the 2 lap course of
6k. Cat, in particular, worked very hard all the way round; she also attacked the steep hill and made it look so easy. This
put her in 15th position her time was 25.10. Lucinda followed soon after Cat; she crossed the line after 26
minutes and 6
seconds, just 8 places later - which meant she was 23rd out of 49 finishers.
Well done to all the competitors!

Consett
29 January 2005
(Report on the girls and ladies races)
On Saturday 29th January, many Lincoln Wellington athletes travelled over a hundred miles to Berry Edge in Consett. The
weather was dry, with a slight breeze but surprisingly warm for a day in January. There wasn't a cloud in the sky and the sun
remained low through out the day.
