Marshall Peugeot Games
Peterborough
30 August 2004

Twelve athletes from Lincoln Wellington travelled to Peterborough for the 2004 Peugeot Marshall games held at Embankment Track. Weather throughout the day varied to many extremes. The day started off very sunny with a bit of a breeze, then in the early hours of the afternoon the skies clouded over quickly and intervals of showers left most of the athletes and their spectators rather soggy. A rare sight was also to be seen that day, as hordes of beautiful dragonflies were constantly darting about around the track.

First up was Catrina Thomas, who ran in the U11 80m sprint. Catrina achieved a time of 14.7 and finished 5th. Catrina later ran along side Megan Ball in the 600m. Both of them ran well Catrina stayed at the back and worked her way up to finish strongly in 2.16 and Megan crossed the line at 2-01.4.

Also in the morning Natalie Jones raced in the U15 100m sprint. Natt finished 5th with a time of 15.3. In the afternoon Natt competed in the 75m Hurdles. Without knocking any of them down, she finished 4th, her time was 16.2.

At Midday the first heats for the 800m were held, a lot of them were ran as straight finals. Georgia Ball finished 1st in her age group (U13) and worked all the way through the race attaining a time of 2-39.5. In the age group above the Wellington girls picked up 3rd, 6th, 9th and 11th. Becki Jones came 3rd; her time was 2-29.3. Lara was next achieving a time of 2-35.0, she ran in a good position with the first group of runners, staying out of trouble. Helen Penistan worked well way throughout to gain a time of 2-45.4. Bex Jackson slowed from her usual times in 11th, crossing the line after 2-56.6.

In the next race Cat Foley ran a fantastic race with Kathleen Warhurst (V40) and Sarah Kimpton (U17). Kathleen ran in her last ever 800m in 2-40.0 as she is retiring from competing to try something a little different in September. She left on a high picking up 3rd position, winning a shot glass souvenir. After Kathy, Sarah crossed the line 5th attaining a time of 2-57.7. Cat paired of with another runner and kept up pace behind her until the last bend where Cat sped off, finding that extra gear to finish 1st with a new personal best of 2-25.4. Cat also race very well in the 1500m in the afternoon, with a great seasons best of 5-12.9.

Jack Skeet (U13) also ran a straight final and kept near the back most of the way until about the last 200m where he pushed into second until the last 70metres where he pulled up into 1st position with a time of 2-24.0. Jack later competed in the 1500m, getting a time of 4-55.7, placing him 2nd. Hester Talbot was also entered and came 1st with a fast time of 5-28.4.

In the afternoon (fortunately after a lot of showers) Alexander Thomas (U17) competed in the 400m timing in at 60.9 picking up 4th.

One of the last events to be held were the 200m sprints, where Hester Talbot came 4th with a time of 33.0. After Hester's race Lara and Becki ran in two different heats. Lara had a time of 31.2 and Becki's was 28.1. Becki qualified for the final and came 2nd, her time was 28.0.
