There were a number of excellent performances but top billing went to Ian Kimpton with an outstanding effort in the A 3000
metres. Aiming to break the nine minute barrier for the first time he was always inside the required schedule of 72 seconds
per lap and a 67 second final lap took him across the line in a remarkable time of 8.52.42.
Another impressive result came from Roy Smith in the A 1500. He led a big field throughout the race and repelled several
challenges before crossing the line comfortably clear in 4.12.06 - over five seconds off his previous best.
The eye-catching performance in the 800m races came from Graham Wright who was making his debut at the distance. He ran a very
well judged race to break through the two minute barrier at his first attempt, finishing in 1.59.65 and displaying great
potential for the future. There was also an 800m personal best for Sam Delaney who looked like going close to two minutes at
one point but tied up a little in the closing stages and finished in 2.05.86. Will Strangeway ran the 800m in the BMC 'C' race.
Although he recorded his second best time of 1.59.15 he never looked really comfortable and having had a fair number of races
recently might now need a little break. Sam Illidge contested the same 800m heat as Graham Wright. He challenged the leaders
on the final bend but faded in the straight to finish in 2.03.06. Mark Baddeley also got in some speedwork in an 800m race. He
paced his effort well and was very satisfied with 2.10.8 at the line.
Sarah Coates was the final 800m runner from the squad but having gone through the bell in a promising position she found the
second lap quite hard work and for the moment is struggling to produce last season's finishing kick.
The final club athlete to perform was Tom Duffield in the 200m. In a small but very select A race he did not get a great start
but was not far behind the winner at the line in 3rd spot with a time of 23.19 seconds.
