Open Meeting
Loughborough
14 July 2004

A number of Lincoln Wellington athletes were in action on a breezy, cloudy mild evening. Natalie Jones ran a new PB for 100 metres clocking 14.9 seconds to place 3rd, then came 2nd in the 75m Hurdles with a time of 16 seconds exactly. Veteran marathon runner Susie Ardron made her debut over 1500 metres and worked hard to keep the pace up after a fast opening 300 metres, eventually finishing tired but happy in 5th place in 5 minutes 38.6.

Josina Clarke was looking for some speed work and entered both the 100 and 200 metres, placing 5th in each race in 13.6 and a new PB of 28.1 seconds. Lara Thomas contested the 1500 metres and suffered on the last lap from the fast early pace but still managed to finish in a new PB time of 5 minutes 15.2 in 8th position.

Alexander Thomas had a good night, recording fine personal bests in the 400 metres (58.9) and the 200 (26.8). Another veteran, Kathleen Warhurst, ran a seasons best over 400 metres to place 2nd in 68.9 seconds.

More personal bests followed, as young Hester Talbot ran a terrific race in her 1500 metres to place 2nd against much older and larger opposition in 5 minutes 20.6, an improvement of 12 seconds on her previous best. Not to be outdone, U15 Becki Jones then ran 5 minutes 12.5 for her lifetime best over the same distance, placing 7th in her race. Becki also competed in the Shot where she threw 7 metres 79 and placed 2nd.

Finally, young Catrina Thomas enjoyed a run out in the 100 metres, where, despite arriving very late, she placed 5th in 19 seconds flat, and then ran to 4th place in the 200 metres with a personal best time of 37.3 seconds.

Next competition for the club team is at Derby this Sunday for the GRE Cup semi final. The following Wednesday a number of athletes will travel to Watford for the BMC Open Graded Meeting.
