A group of Lincoln Wellington athletes and supporters travelled to Cardiff during the Bank Holiday for the British Milers Club Young Athletes Grand Prix meeting. This prestigious meeting was the first of its kind to be held at the Leckwith stadium which overlooks the famous
Millennium Stadium. Race E featured Lara Thomas and Rebecca Jackson of Lincoln Wellington competing over 800 metres. Setting off on a cold day with a strong blustery wind and in a heavy shower, Lara joined a small pack closely shadowing the pacemaker whilst Rebecca made a more conservative start. The pacemaker dropped out after 600 metres leaving Lara in 2nd place unsuccessfully chasing a girl who was her elder by 3 years, but she refused to give up and was rewarded with a marvellous new personal best time of 2 minutes 32.24 seconds. Rebecca meanwhile was moving up through the pack and after a final burst to the line finished in 4th place with a time of 2 minutes 33.95 seconds, also a new personal best. at website@lwac.org.uk

Each race was graded according to the athletes best times and had a pacemaker.
Race G was another 800 metres and featured Lincoln Wellington athletes Becki Jones, Cat Foley and Josina Clarke. As the races are graded by athletes times there were athletes of all age groups in each race. By now the rain was heavier but the pace was very brisk and, at the bell, the Lincoln girls were struggling to maintain contact with the leaders. However as the race progressed Becki Jones moved up and after a storming final 100 metres placed 4th in 2 minutes 27.85 seconds. Josina Clarke looked set for a good time too but faded in the final 50 metres to finish 7th in 2 minutes 32.55 whilst Cat Foley held on gamely and closed up to 8th place in 2 minutes 33.31 seconds.
The meeting announcer on the day made a special point of thanking the Lincoln Wellington party for making the long trip and hoped to see them all again next year.
