East Midlands Modern Triathlon
Yarborough, Lincoln
14 March 2004

14th March 2004 saw the annual East Midlands Regional Modern Triathlon / Open Biathlon at Yarbrough Leisure Centre.  The triathlon consisted of a 200m swim, air pistol shooting, and a 3000m run.  The biathlon only consisted of the swim and the run.

The main difference between the modern and standard events is that there are no transitions, therefore there is a break between the events.

Helen Simmonite came second in the triathlon, also winning best shoot for her age group and first in the biathlon. In her debut attempt Tracy Carnall came third in the triathlon and second in the biathlon.  As Tracy and Helen both came in the top six of their age group they have qualified to compete in the National Modern Triathlon Competition at Wolverhampton in May.

The event has categories for all ages (different age groups do different distances), is very friendly and comes highly recommended for anyone looking at trying something different.  Team prizes are also available if more people are interested next year. If you want to know more about competing, please ask Helen or Tracy at the club.
