Lincoln Wellington had an excellent turn out for the English National Cross Country championships at Temple Newsam in Leeds.

It was a testing course with high class opposition but that did not stop Blue Haywood in the U13 girl's event having an outstanding run against over 300 of the best athletes in the country. After breaking from the pack she led all the way round, finishing in first place with an excellent time of (11:31), an incredible achievement. Charlotte Hanson (12:49) came 56th, Lara Thomas (12:50) came 58th, Chelsea Coyle (12:51) came 61st completing the first team, gaining overall 5th place. Georgia Ball (13:01) arrived home in 83rd place whilst Hester Talbot (13:54) was 175th and Mary Ann Philips (14:35) finished 249th. Excellent running by these 3 girls having only just gone up to the U13's.

The U13's boys race saw a good run from Jake Coyle (11:42) in 69th place with good runs from Jonathon Humberstone (13:00) - 201st and Neil Humberstone (14:09) in 252nd place.

Kelly Gilbert (18:20) led the U15's girls home at 118th followed by Helen Penistan (20:09) in 232nd place followed closely by Rachel Humberstone (20:47) in 258th place.

The U15 boys were led home by a strong run from James Dray (15:44) in 89th place followed by Elliott Haywood (16:42) in 185th and Jack Ramsden (17:14), Ryan Smith (17:21), 232 & 241 respectively completing the first team, home in 27th position. Alexander Thomas (18:23) had a good run finishing 290th followed by Paul Samways (18:23) - 296th and Beren Cross (18:45) in 297th.

The U17 women's event saw both Sarah Kimpton (24:14) & Natasha Johnson (24:21) compete in a tough field, finishing 113th & 117th.

A good run from the U17 men saw the team finishing overall 12th position. Ian Kimpton (23:59) came 70th, Mark Plaskett (24:12), 83rd, Tom Herbert (24:30) , 100th and Danny Roome (24:34), 105th, followed by Sam Delaney (24:43) and Dexter Haywood (26:23) finishing 173rd & 187th.

The Junior women's race produced an excellent result for Lucinda Pitcher (21:18) who came in 36th position followed by Mia Haywood (26:02) and Alice Thomas (28:49) in 113th & 123rd places.

Roy Smith (35:33) ran a hard race in the junior men's race coming home in 67th place followed by Will Strangeway (37:19) in 104th.

Lastly Dave Humberstone ran a long and gruelling race in a huge 1400-strong senior men's race, finishing a respectable two thirds down the field with a time of (64:29).
