The formidable Lincoln Wellington Veteran athletes squad went on the medal trail at the British Masters Indoor Championships
at Cardiff. A highly successful raid produced a final haul of three gold, three silver and three bronze medals - a
magnificent achievement in a National competition.
Betty Stracey led the way with a pair of gold medals in the W60 category. She won the 3000m in a time of 14 minutes 47.85 seconds and then went on to score in the 1500m in 7.00.21. Dot Fraser picked up the third gold medal when taking the W65 400m with a very strong finish in 81.23. There was also a silver medal for her in the 200m in 35.46. Another silver medal went to Nigel Winchcombe with a very satisfactory 11.41m in the M40 shot. And a further silver was awarded to Malc Bramhall who clocked 55.15 in the M45 400m with a well judged race. In the W35 800m Jacqui Brown did pretty well to claim bronze in 2.25.98 and Geoff Powley did similarly in the M40 200m with a time of 26.00 seconds exactly. A final medal went to Denise Timmis with a fine run for 3rd position in the W40 400m in a good time of 65.39. She also picked up 5th places in both the 60m and 200m finals. Sharon Waller made her indoor debut and did well to finish 4th in the W35 long jump with 4.25m and 6th in the 60m in 8.91. |
