Lincs County XC Championships
Louth
4 January 2004

Seven team gold medals and five individual victories gave Lincoln Wellington athletes a near monopoly of the Lincolnshire cross country championships on a testing course at Louth.

A strong run from Charlotte Hanson in the under 13 girls contest got the club off to the best of starts. And with Chelsea Coyle running a fine race for 2nd place and Lara Thomas crossing the line 5th the first team gold was soon on the scoreboard. Georgia Ball supported this trio with a good effort for 7th place and looks a likely future prospect. Jake Coyle ran away with the under 13 boys race to win by a huge margin. Jon Humberstone in 6th spot and Joe Dunderdale 8th completed the silver medal winning team. There was a good finish to the under 15 boys race with James Dray's finishing kick proving decisive on the dash to the line. Jack Ramsden ran a blinder to finish 4th and Ryan Smith's 8th place clinched the team win. Tom Duffield kept on well to finish 9th with Beren Cross 11th and Ashley Smith 13th. The junior/senior/veteran women's race was won impressively by Wellington's improving Lucinda Pitcher. She was eight or ten metres adrift at halfway but showed a lot of character to close the gap and then draw well clear in the final stages. Sarah Coates also ran strongly to finish 2nd junior and 5th overall. In the senior race Annette Bell worked through to 2nd place with Claire McCracken in 3rd. Kathy Warhurst picked up 4th spot in the veteran's contest. A final individual triumph went to Natasha Johnson who won the under 17 women's race very convincingly. Sarah Kimpton and Emily Taylor were 6th and 7th respectively for another team gold.

There was some great team packing from Wellington in the under 17 men's race. The in-form Sam Delaney came back an excellent 2nd and he was followed by Mark Plaskett 4th, Tom Herbert 5th, Ian Kimpton 6th and Danny Roome 7th. With Gary Cruickshank a little further back in 13th the Wellington squad picked up both the gold and silver medals. In the under 15 girl's race Kelly Gilbert led home the Wellington contingent in 2nd place. Helen Penistan did well to finish 5th with Josina Clarke 8th Rebecca Jackson 9th and Rachel Humberstone 13th. There was a team gold in the under 20 mens race with Will Strangeway taking the runner up spot ahead of Roy Smith 4th and Matt Hughes 5th. The senior men also took team gold led in by a strong run from Tommy Doe to take 2nd place. Ronnie McWilliams in 5th and Simon Bell 8th completed the team to conclude an outstanding day for the club's endurance squad.
