The weather was perfect, cool but not that cold, bright and sunny, with very little wind. Of the trio of Wellington runners,
Steve Campion was competing in his 5th successive Sunday event. This is obviously taking it's toll on his brain as he must
have thought he was doing a 10k not a 10 mile given the uncatchable fast pace he started with. Perhaps he did not appreciate
this until he spotted the 3 mile marker in little over 19 minutes. Anthony Gerundini started a little more steadily, and
eventually passed Steve before 2 miles, in fairly even 6.15 minutes per mile, and at halfway was 31m 15secs. With little
recent training due to shin splints, he was very pleased to continue this better than expected pace through to the end of
the race, and indeed hauled in 8 places with a concerted effort over the last 2 miles to finish 49th out of 365 finishers
in a total time of 1hr 02mins 48secs (PB). Steve could not maintain his initial pace but still kept going consistently to
achieve yet another PB by over a minute, finishing 82nd in 1hr 06mins 04secs. Brian Fox had a major duel throughout the
race with a number of close rivals, but having dispensed with his day-glo woolly hat, achieved perfect aerodynamic qualities
and showed off his good speed by out-sprinting 2 deadly rivals right at the finish. He may also like to thank his long since
finished chums for providing some necessary last minute motivation and encouragement, and was pleased with 135th place in a
time of 1hr 11mins 7secs.

Peterborough
7 December 2003
This race celebrated it's 25th year, and is organised by Nene Valley Harriers, from the Bretton new town area in the north
part of Peterborough. It's pancake flat, apart from the odd under/overpass, which actually help to break things up a bit. A
2 lap affair, very little on main roads, mostly on pedestrian only paths or residential minor roads, and a 1 mile section
off-road through some woods.
