North Midlands XC League
Heanor
1 November 2003

The current cross country season is now gathering momentum and Lincoln Wellington athletes have been notching some impressive results against quality opposition. At the second North Midlands league match of the season at Heanor a good standard senior men's field was taken apart by Matt Bowser who went clear from the gun and was never seriously threatened thereafter. In the same race there was also a good run from Tom Hayball to cross the line 17th in a very big field.

Another impressive Wellington victory at the same meeting went to Ian Kimpton in the under 17 men's race. After a careful start he pulled clear in great style in the later stages and his recently increased training load is clearly paying dividends. A further step up in class is probably imminent.

In the under 15 girls race the very promising Liz Harley again underlined her potential. She ran very strongly throughout to finish a fine 3rd - two places ahead of her debut performance in the league three weeks previously.

Natasha Johnson completed the Wellington quartet at the meeting. The under 17's race was combined with the junior and senior women and she had a very tough task on her hands. In the circumstances 54th place overall in another big field was entirely satisfactory.
