There was a very good effort from Jake Coyle in the under 13 boys race. After being a little way off the pace in the early
stages he made very good progress in the closing stages to cross the line a strong finishing 3rd. Another promising run came
from Liz Harley who was always in the leading group before finishing a good 5th in the under 15 girls race. In the under 15
boys contest the three Wellington athletes all ran with credit. Ollie Bartlett produced a particularly encouraging effort to
finish 5th with James Dray close behind in 8th and Ashley Smith not too far back in 15th.
These were very good performances in what is a high standard league and the club should be able to look forward to a very
productive winter campaign.

Derby
11 October 2003
There were some high class performances from a small Lincoln Wellington squad at the first North Midlands League cross
country match of the season at Markeaton Park, Derby. In the under 13 girl's race Blue Haywood continued her excellent recent
form with a dominant piece of front running . She was 100 metres clear turning into the final straight and cruised home in
impressive style with no-one able to get in a blow. Charlotte Hanson ran very well for 4th place and Lara Thomas and Chelsea
Coyle had their own private tussle before finishing 9th and 10th respectively. Rachael Nathan made her seasonal debut in the
junior/senior women's race and came up against the highly rated ex-GB junior international Jane Potter. The pair had the race
to themselves from soon after the start and a big gap to the 3rd placed athlete quickly developed. It was Potter who proved
the stronger in the second half of the race and she is obviously back in her best shape of a couple of seasons ago. Sarah
Coates had a satisfactory run in 33rd spot and finished with a bit left in the tank.
