There were plenty more good performances. Tom Doe won the 3000m steeplechase in great style in 9.28.7 and also took the B
1500m in 4.06.8 The B steeplechase went to Andy Shepherd with a good time of 10.03.9. A good clearance of 3.40m won the pole
vault for Adey White and he was also 2nd in the B hammer with 27.45m, 4th in the B discus with 27.83m and 6th in the B shot
with 8.88m. Nigel Winchcombe concluded a fine season with a winning throw of 48.12m in the hammer and went on to finish 2nd
in the discus with 36.98m, 5th in the shot with 11.24m and 5th in the B javelin 31.19m. Simon Bell ran a season's best 15.40.7
for 2nd place in the B 5000m and Will Strangeway ran strongly for 5th spot in the B 800m in 2.04.7. Steve Blagdon was runner
up in the 100m in 11.2 and finished 3rd in the 400m in 51.8. Rob Hindle grabbed 5th spot in the B 400m in 54.7.
After
pulling a hamstring soon after the start in the B 100m, Michael White managed to jog across the line to secure an invaluable
point. In the 200m Jim Ayuba picked up 3rd place in the A race in 23.7 and new member Matt Meanwell ran well for 4th spot in
the B race in 24.3. A good effort from Malc Bramhall gave him 3rd place in the 400m hurdles in 60.4 and a clearance of 1.60m
placed him 6th in the high jump. All rounder Geoff Powley completed a remarkable six events with his best results being 2nd
place in the B pole vault with 2.50m and 4th spot in the javelin with 39.62m. Further useful field points came from Rob Hindle
in the triple jump and Steve Swaby in the long jump. There was a stylish conclusion to the meeting from the 4x100m relay squad
who passed the baton round pretty slickly to score in 45.4.

Div. 2 Playoff - Cleckheaton
6 September 2003
A terrific all round team effort gave the Lincoln Wellington men's squad the runner up position in their Northern League
Division Two play-off match at Cleckheaton. Subject to the outcome of a possible merger of the Northern men's and women's
leagues next season the men will now be promoted to Division One for only the second time in the club's history. The whole
team responded superbly to the challenge but there was a particularly heroic effort from Matt Bowser who won the 800m in
1.56.5, the 1500m in 4.04.4 and finished 3rd in the 5000m in 15.28.3. Not content with this he ran a stunning final leg of
the 4x400m relay to come from an impossible position at the final changeover to grab 4th place at the line and clinch the
points needed to secure the promotion spot.
