A remarkable performance by Lincoln Wellington veteran Geoff Powley saw him notch up nine individual victories at the final Lincs League track and field meeting of the season at Grantham. Not content with this he also took the runner up slot in the hammer, 200m and 400m to complete an amazing day of
competition. Powley's defeat in the 400m came at the hands of clubmate Malc Bramhall who registered a new Wellington record in the over 45 category of 55.0 seconds. In the senior age group Adrian White won the pole vault with a personal best 3.60m and was also successful in the hammer and high jump and Steve Swaby won the long jump with 5.70m. The under 20 men's mile went to Will Strangeway in 4.50.1 and the 200m was won by Rob Hindle in 24.9. The latter also ran well for 2nd place in the 100m in 11.7. The under 17's 5000m County Championship was won in good style in a club record 17.06.1 by Ian Kimpton with Tom Herbert taking 2nd place in 18.07.2 - his first run back after an injury lay-off. Danny Roome won the 800m in 2.11.5 from Mark Plaskett close behind in 2nd place in 2.11.9. Sam Delaney completed a Wellington clean sweep in 3rd spot in 2.15.6 and Gary Cruickshank was pleased to finish 4th in 2.18.9 on his first run of the season. The outstanding performance from the under 15's was a club record 4.57.1 from James Dray to win the mile impressively. Ashley Smith finished in 3rd place in 5.13.7 but went on to win the 800m in 2.20.7. Nathan Goodman picked up the 100m in 12.6 and completed a double when winning the 200m in 26.0. A strong run from Jake Coyle placed him 2nd in the under 13's 800m in 2.30.3.
The outstanding performance from the women's squad was Blue Haywood's runaway win in the under 13's mile in a club record 5.34.9. Lara Thomas was 2nd in 5.49.5 with Georgie Ball 3rd in 6.22.8. In the 800m Chelsea Coyle crossed the line in 4th place in 2.49.3. In the under 15 age group there were wins for Liz Harley in the mile in 5.48.3 and for Josina Clarke in the 800m in 2.37.4 with Kelly Gilbert runner up in 2.41.7. Sarah Kimpton took the under 17's mile in 6.25.7. Nina Swaby had an excellent day in the senior age group with a trio of individual wins. She took the 100m in 13.6, the long jump with 4.24m and the 200m in 28.0. Liz Ward won the 400m in 61.1 and Hayley Fox cleared 2.40m to score in the pole vault.
