Derby
13 July 2003
The Lincoln Wellington women's team just missed out on progressing to the final of the Northern Clubs Cup Competition when
they finished in a very creditable 3rd place from the eight teams contesting the semi-final at Derby. Rowena Harrison was
the only outright winner for the Wellington squad with a strong run in blustery conditions taking her first across the line
in the 400m in 60.6 seconds. An outdoor personal best and club record clearance of 2.60m gave Hayley Fox 2nd place in the
pole vault. And also claiming runner-up spots were Lucinda Pitcher in the 3000m in 11.13.8 and Nina Swaby in the 400m hurdles
in 70.1. Kathy Warhurst ran well for 3rd place in the 1500m in 5.18.1 and Sarah Coates finished 4th in the 800m in 2.27.2. In
the sprints there was a 4th placing for Liz Ward in the 200m in 26.9 with Lydia Chamberlain taking 5th place in the 100m in
13.1. The latter was also 4th in the long jump with 4.75m and 5th in the high jump with 1.50m. Lesley Bryant picked up 4th
places in the discus (29.66m) and shot (10.39m) and Danielle Bryant notched a personal best 28.96m for 4th place in the javelin
and finished 5th in the triple jump with 10.17m. Linda Ellis collected useful points in the hammer with 12.63m for 5th place.
A good performance by the 4x100m relay squad saw them finish in 52.3 for 2nd place with the 4x400m quartet also performing
pretty well to grab 3rd place in 4.19.2.
