The 3000m steeplechase provided the best team result with Ronnie McWilliams winning the 'A' race in a fine time of 9.50.3 and
Jason Hall taking the 'B' contest with 10.01.8 - a personal best by 10 seconds. This pair were also pressed into service in
the 110m hurdles and did pretty well to pick up 4th places in both the A & B races. The club also collected maximum
points in the hammer with Nigel Winchcombe winning the 'A' contest with 48.26m and son Gary scoring in the 'B' event with
36.76m. Winchcombe senior also won the discus with 37.64m and came 4th in the shot with 11.06m. New member Dan Bishop did
well to take the runner up spots in the 'B' discus with 31.22m and the 'B' shot with 9.99m and he also finished 6th in the
'B' javelin with 32.20m. Matt Bowser produced two good performances on the track and after finishing 2nd in the 800m in
1.54.9 he made all the running to win the 5000m impressively in 14.56.2. Dean Houlton returned in the latter event after an
injury lay-off and finished a satisfactory 5th in the 'B' race in 17.50.6. Steve Blagdon notched a good win in the 200m in
22.6 and then placed 5th in the 400m in 51.9. Robert Hindle was 5th in the 'B' 400m in 55.0. There were good points for the
club in the 1500m with Simon Bell finishing 3rd in the 'A' race in 4.16.8 and Danny Roome taking the runner up spot in the
'B' contest in 4.21.0. Will Strangeway picked up a personal best 2.06.2 for 4th place in the 'B' 800m and there were useful
efforts from Malc Bramhall (61.1) for 4th in the 'A' 400m hurdles and from Steve Swaby (65.3) for 3rd in the 'B' race. Ricky
Lea and Jim Ayuba finished 6th in the 100m races with 11.8 and 12.0 respectively. A good leap of 6.08m gave Phil Mackie 4th
place in the long jump and he was also 3rd in the 'B' triple jump with 11.40m. Steve Swaby kept particularly busy with 3rd
spot in the 'B' long jump (5.83m), 5th in the high jump (1.50m) and 6th in the triple jump (11.65m).
The 4x100m relay quartet finished a close 2nd in 46.0 and the 4x400m squad placed 4th in 3.41.5.

Match 2 - Wakefield
8 June 2003
Despite a narrow six point defeat in their latest Northern League Division 2 match at Wakefield the Lincoln Wellington men's
team have gone to the top of the table at the halfway point of the season. If full strength squads can be fielded at the
remaining two matches the club should make a bold bid to return to the top flight.
